Hoovie killed his 996

"My engine died at the race track so I drove it around until it was completely destroyed." - said the guy who purchased a 17 year old car, from a used car dealer, sight unseen, with zero maintenance records, and 243,000 miles. Then performed zero preventative maintenance.
sounds about right.
He was practically giddy driving the car around with a damaged engine.

He is making a YouTube show and has to keep it interesting. But his repair - whatever he chooses - is going to be a business expense. I kind of see him going with a used engine. But you never know.

I'm thinking LS swap, which will appeal to an entirely different type of buyer...
w/240k miles plus on the odomter, whatever resale value will be low anyway.
In his shoes, I'd go LS swap. Would make for a more interesting show in the long run, IMHO. Otherwise, I'd like to think he's smart enough to have had the car looked at to determine if the engine can be fixed/saved after the track issue.

He also stated he found a "used 911 engine" for $6,000 so he is considering that. But I agree, he seemed too happy when his motor failed. Everyone is thinking his plan was an LS swap all along.

This guy makes enough in one month from his YT channel to have Jake rebuild his engine.

Well, not surprised. He paid $9,500 for highest mileage (most likely) manual 996 for sale in US, flew to get it, did some mods to it, and then it died. Most likely his all in cost was $12,000 or so.
Top Gear had an episode about "cheap Porsches". Hoovie's experience reinforces the point. DO NOT DO IT. Average buyer of the $9,500 Porsche is doing it because that's all he can afford, and if it craps itself on him 3 months later...he is out at least $5k.
Tracking or not, car dropped the motor. If he buys a used motor and puts it in himself, that's another $6k (his words). So total price now goes to $18k. $18k initially would have bought him a good, low mileage 99-00 car.

Well the guy is making a career for himself and doing the class clown act to attract the "American Pie" internet crowd. He did everything he could to make the car fail from day one. And now that he has caused the engine to fail, he'll have a new story to tell. However I don't think of him as a Porsche enthusiast...more than likely he'll end up as a comedy/consumer reporter on a local tv station.

I've been following Apollo 911 - For the record, I don't think it would have died if he hadn't pushed it as hard on the track....Car was fine but no matter what, it was a high mileage car and no prep. I think he said what ultimately did the car in was oil starvation.
I agree it was the cheapest 911 but that's not what killed that engine. That said, I get the feeling that an LS swap is in the cards - but he did mention that purist would hate the idea....which leads me to believe he'll do the LS swap.

it is entertaining as I watched some of his other videos too. The premises is that 'I am an idiot and look what I did with my car', so I am in the camp thinking that he has had the LS swap in mind and maybe not intended to kill it but to see how far he can push it on Dyno, Drag Race and then track. But the intend was clear after the track mishap, instead of see what's happening he continue to push it.
But to do something most people will hate and claim ' I am an idiot, look what I put in my Porsche' will drive viewership.
It is entertaining. He had another video where he fixed a 4500 dollar S600 and tuned it to 500+ hp and killed it.
