Default My Double Din Stereo Install

Parts Used:
- Kenwood DDX374BT (was on sale for 179.00)
- Metra 70-1787 Radio Wiring Harness
- Metra Electronics 40-VW10
- Metra 99-9605B Single/Double DIN Dash Kit For Porsche 911 (996)
- MXtechnic 3.3 Feet USB & HDMI Extension Cable for Car Flush Mount
- 3.5mm 6" Mini Aux Male Stereo Right to 3 RCA Female Audio Video AV
- HDMI Cable (1080p 4K 3D High Speed) 1.5 Feet
- Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter for iPhone (MD826AM/A)
- HDMI to RCA, GANA 1080P HDMI to AV 3RCA CVBs Composite Video Audio Converter Adapter Supporting PAL/NTSC with USB Charge Cable

With this set up I am able to mirror my iPhone in the display, specially for navigation purposes.

I have not used the cigarette lighter in the years I have owned the car, great spot for the HDMI input as well as the USB input. The lighter itself is somewhere hidden in the back powering the HDMI to RCA converter. I first tried one of the "un-powered" cables and DID NOT work well.

All I need now is a "perfectly sized" sticker for the space above the radio...

Looks nice. What's the purpose of the HDMI port?

wyovino - the HDMI port allows me to connect my iPhone (or any smartphone) and mirror it on the car display. It is great for navigation, Netflix, Youtube or any video streaming from a smartphone

Waterloo - Correct !.......that is the garage door opener !

It would be great if there was an app that would do that using wifi or bluetooth. I hate wires.

Hey Bill, I ve seen something like that done on youtube with an apple tv unit, + wifi router. The apple tv was plugged into the HDMI input behind the unit. both units were unseen in the dash. think the wirers may just be a lot cheaper, and prob more reliable.

Nice install! Only one recommendation... change the splash screen's background image. I think it's cool to have the Porsche crest as a background image especially when the unit is first turned on, but it clashes with the superimposed menu text which IMHO makes it difficult to read and could be a safety issue when driving and trying to operate the HU.

I'm more intrigued about doing the Garage door opener mod. Seems like a nice addition to do. I was going to ask you how you did the garage door opener mod, but found the answer to my own question.

@ b3frek - Thanks !

I agree with you......the background does not lend itself to highlight the text on the screen. I used that one 'cause it had the most black in it.....all the others were just too light colored to make the white letters stand out.

I tried changing the startup screen, but do not have the software to convert the file to .bmp with all the "other requirements" needed to make it work.
I saw enough videos, and apparently there is a specific type of 16 bit bitmap file that needs to be used as a splash screen.

@Device2 - Yep, that one was of my first simple mods......as you can see all the buttons on the left of the console are other mods....."car is fully optioned"...

Even with the stock speakers there is a major improvement is "Sound Quality".......notes sound "sharper" or "crisper"........the radio has a gazillion settings (per speaker as well as per frequency).....which I have not touched yet.

There is not much "loudness" when compared to the previous radio, since the speakers are still driven by the factory amp in the frunk.
