I get the sense that the market treats the ME very differently from the 40AE; the ME doesn't seem to command much of a premium over a similar spec unmolested C4. The interior and exterior colours, and the original wheels (if still present), are all "love it or hate it" items ...
I personally like the ME (apart from the chrome wheels, which I dislike but don't have) and I thought the limited edition aspect was kinda neat. But there's as many folk who would go "ugh, a ME" as "I must have a ME!".

If that's true, then I totally agree with you. It's like the curl on a pig's tail; that is, doesn't add anymore pork to the pig!
I think people are looking for unique performance differences more than cosmetic upgrades, IMHO. Can you imagine if the ME came with the Mezger GT3 engine on top of the unique cosmetic items? That would have been a grand slam.. out of the park - homerun! But all I see is a Carrera 4 with ugly chrome turbo twist wheels, some fancy maple wood trim, PCM1 audio/nav system, and the natural brown leather (my favorite).
That being said, it would be a nice find if one could be snagged (non-accident, low miles, etc.) for the same price as the standard C4, wouldn't it?
Do you know if Porsche did anything to the suspension, exhaust, or braking? Are those items standard like the other Carreras?

Suspension was M030 in both US and RoW markets. And you get heated seats, litronics, and a rear wiper ... some markets got a phone, too Engine is absolutely standard though.
I think there's a brochure link earlier in this thread but here it is:

Yea, that one is local, but I ran the carfax and found a few other negatives ...
1. It's been wrecked Ugh!!!!
2. No service records.
3. 4 owners
4. No indication that any preventive maintenance (IMS replacement) had been carried out.
5. it's says "no haggle price"
and, lastly... it's a tip.
Not that I'd rule it completely out, but if it were just ME (no pun intended), I would be all manual... all the way! ha!

Still has its chrome rims though
On the IMS, I have a suspicion that they will all be dual row since they were all produced in 1999 to be in showrooms or customers' hands on 1 Jan 2000. But I've nothing to back this up.

Don't remind me! hahaha They're not horrible, but something about the flashy chrome just doesn't work well, especially since the paint is boarderline black. I would guess some dark grey wheels or even black would work better? If I bought the car, that would be the first thing I would change. Of course, I'd hang onto the wheels for the next owner. I changed out my bumper on my mk2 carrera, and the buyer definitely wanted the original bumper when I sold it.
Looks like it was manufactured in Nov. 1999 and so I guess there's a good chance it was dual row. But it's still a tip and has been wrecked. Not any wreck.... but a hit in the rear. Not good for a 911. My biggest concern is if I ever try to sell it, the "Carfax blackeye" will greatly affect getting top dollar. I learned this personally. Thought I was getting a great deal as a buyer, but ended up taking a huge hit on resell. Plus, having to explain the accident over and over and over and over again got OLD quick.

Jimmy, where did you see that MEs get the M030 suspension upgrade? Everything I've read indicates they have the same suspension as any C4.

Now we're talking... (this is the one to be looking for)
That is,
1. Super low miles (i.e. 31,000)
2. Clean carfax - no accidents
3. Service history
4. Manual - YAY!!!!
And last, but not least... it has the chrome wheels too!!!
But!!! The owner is asking $34,000! huh??

Rereading it, though, it's unclear whether he's talking about US or RoW cars. I guess we need someone with a US-market ME to take a look underneath their car ...
