Default 996 Millennium Edition Registry/Info

Seeing as the AE 911’s have a registry, I decided the Millennium Editions should have one too. I'm a new owner and curious to see how many others are out here. This is a completely voluntary registry. I will not pull info from other threads or user profiles. Please comment here to be included. Please list your edition number, location (region or City), and current mileage. Location will help determine if there are others in your area. (I feel like I’m the only one in San Antonio.) Mileage just to see if anyone has an extremely high or low mileage example. Thanks.

In 2000 Porsche introduced a special edition of the 996 described as "The 911 for the Millennium" and based it on the Carrera 4 coupe. Porsche produced nine-hundred and eleven Millennium Editions (4.3% of the 20,979 911s produced in 2000) to mark "a unique moment in world history." The model carried additional features beyond the base Carrera 4, including 18-inch turbo-look polished alloy wheels, special Violet ChromaFlair metallic paint, a polished 911 logo on the engine cover, aluminium-finish instrument dials, full leather interior in natural brown with a special burr maple interior trim. Each 911 Millennium has a chromium-plated plaque with its unique edition number on the center console. It carried four-wheel drive, a 300 horsepower 3.4L engine and a six-speed manual or tiptronic transmission. Other features included on the Millennium were: power memory seats, digital sound package, six disc CD changer, litronic headlights, alcantara headliner, Porsche Communication Management with Navigation, power slide/tilt moonroof, trip computer, 911 logo door sills, and heated seat package. Right hand drive Millenniums are even rarer as only three (out of the 911) were said to be produced.

Thanks, Bill. I saw one of the two for sale on Autotrader and added it. We'll see if whoever buys it eventually makes his way to the forum at some point.

Sweet, bro! Car is very clean. Are the wheels are powder coated silver? They looked polished in your other photos.

Thanks! They were refinished in polished chrome, but then they were apparently treated with a heavy clearcoat. They look kind of "off-chrome" with an almost pearlescent depth to them... Apparently, prior to the new finish they were very flaked with lots of red primer showing.

Hey y'all

Simon - great initiative. I'd been toying with the idea of something similar for a while, but never quite got around to it. I do have a spreadsheet somewhere with details of ME cars that have been for sale in the past year or so, I'll dig it out when I get home (travelling at the mo).

Mine is #135, bought just under a year ago. 138,000 miles but pretty well looked after by me and the PO, and with a new engine at 50k. I've given it a few mild tweaks but nothing serious since it's pretty much my daily. The steering wheel wood was wrecked when I got it, I hope to get it back from being refinished next week.

There's one other in my area that I know of, owned by Markar on here - beautiful condition with a supercharger. And didn't Jake (or Mrs Jake) used to have one?

Hey Jimmy, thanks for posting. I was beginning to wonder how long before someone else chimed in. I really like your wheel choice. I've always thought the Carrera III's looked fantastic on dark colored 996's.

Looking forward to seeing pics on how the wood refinishing turns out. (post pics in this thread) If mine gets any worse I'd consider getting it refinished. I've thought about how the cabin would look with all the wood trim redone in carbon fiber.

Any of you ME guys that want to get rid of your glossy wheels*, send me a PM. Would love to find a clean set for a good price.

* I actually recommend keeping your rims since they are part of the package, but I know some REALLY don't like them

They're heavy and dated but they work so I've decided to keep them for now.👍

Not sure if these have sold yet but here's a decent set in Austin.

+1 on everything Simon said...

The Carrera III rims look great, and light

My steering wheel has some hairline cracks that can be felt and barely seen. I've been considering using a wax or polish on it in an attempt to slow further deterioration... But I'm not sure if it will help???

For those who haven't already got the brochure, you can find it here:

http://coochas.com/brochures/996.html

Or they come up on eBay all the time.

There was also an article in Total911 in October / November last year. You can read the opening paragraphs here. I got a friend in the UK to send me a copy; shoot me a message if anyone wants a PDF of the full article. Probably best not to post it here for copyright reasons.

There is also a nice article in the April 2017 issue of "911 and Porsche World" magazine and the columnist was much more optimistic about the prospect of increasing values over time. Although he's in the U.K so that may be the difference. Curious why all of a sudden the Millennium Edition is being recognized in two Porsche magazines in the same month? Must be because I bought one. 🤣

Is this the same one that was on Auto trader recently? I can't find it now.
