ME
Hi everyone. I thought I would post a few pix of my first ME and the current one. I have a lot of build pix for # 2 that I will try to post on a link if anyone wants to see what an intermix repair goes through. For now, # 1 car and current # 2. Just the badge
First ME, # 432

Changed IMS on #813
I changed the IMS on my ME #813 to the L&N Solution (oil-fed bearing)in May 2016 at 61,900 miles. The removed IMS bearing was double row and had no issues.

I'm thinking about what to do about my peeling ME rims. Options I'm considering:
1. Spray paint rattle can chrome on exposed red parts. Maybe too ugly, but could be reversed by options #2 or #3 below.
2. Fix minor curb rash and have rims stripped and polished to a high shine. Work to keep them polished.
3. Do #2 above them have them powder coated to polished chrome. I'd have to see some samples first. But there are several firms in the San Francisco area which do powder coating. I had one firm redo my lawn chairs and table.
4. Search for and buy new rims. Probably not cost effective.

I also bought my ME from Cars Dawydiak in San Francisco way back on 12-31-2002. Still have it. Peeling rims and cracked rotwood.

Cruisin'
The class action suit regarding the IMS bearing included production years 2001-2006 996s, which had single row bearings with a failure rate of 8-10%. Years 1999 and 2000 996s were not included in the suit or settlement because they were outfitted with double row bearings with a failure rate "significantly" less than 1%, which was considered to be statistically insignificant according to official court documents associated with the case..

pretty sure it only included 2002 on and you’re way oversimplifying this.

996 ME #835 in Alaska
I recently assisted a local Porsche collector sell his 99 mile Porsche 993 turbo.
In the process I came across this 2000 ME, #835 in Anchorage, Alaska. It has 26 miles on it and has sat under a cover in a temp controlled garage since purchase from local dealer. I was able to grab a few pics below and am posting because original owner now wants to sell it. He is asking $200,000…. which is very far from realistic IMO.
What should the seller should be asking?
Disclosure: I am not the seller’s agent and no commission is involved. I am trying to assist an aging collector. If nothing else, this car can be added to the 996 ME Registry. Then again, I am sure this post will result in “why didn’t he drive it”, “these cars are meant to be driven”, and “crazy”. Believe me, I have asked all these questions and don’t have an answer other than owner just liked looking at them.

OMG Unbelievable find..
That car, with 26 miles, special edition, is such a unicorn it will be tough to put a price on..
BAT with no reserve and you'll find out really quick. While $200,000 may seem like a stretch I don't think a six figures is out of the question. At all. I hope it finds a really good home. I think the Porsche museum in Germany already has a Millennium but maybe they want a second.
Would love to see more photos as well.

Hi all. I just stumbled across this thread in trying to find info about the ME. I recently purchased number 422. A UK RHD manual car.
It's in fabulous condition generally but the wood trim around the steering wheel and door bins has significant cracking on the laquer. Has anybody had any luck in having these restored or replaced. It seems difficult to find replacements with that finish, possibly unique to the Millennium?

Holding out some hope here.
I don't want to jinx the sale (or lose it to someone with more time available or money then I) but I found an ME car and I am going to try and look at it in person this week. The car isn't listed on the first page of this thread, but I am hoping to find the owner to get more detail about some "water" damage that occurred in late 2011. The damage resulted in a no-start, had to be towed situation. The incident isn't listed on the CarFax, but the owner apparently spent a lot of money at the dealer to address the damage, as I obtained the available service history.
This is going to be my first Porsche (my over 60 mid-life crisis buy). If this is your car, please PM me as I would very much like to speak with you before executing the purchase.
Thank you.
