LN Spin-on Oil adapter - worth it?
I know I know, do a search etc. etc.
But, I got on this spin-on bandwagon late, and a lot of the discussions on this were from a couple of years ago. Except for one where the whole thing came out because the son was doing the filter change :-)
Anyway, is the consensus that this is worth doing? Even with the hassle of not being able to cut open the filter easily? No, there is no Harbor Freight in NZ, cheapest filter cutting tool here costs around $100 :-(
I've booked my car for a service at the OPC next week and have asked them to do this work, and they might get confused or not.

I'm in the camp of trying to do everything I can to extend the health and life of my engine, even though I have a rebuild scheduled for Jan of next year. So I have the spin on filter, use Dt40 for daily driving and switch to XP9 for track days. I've also installed the X51 deep sump kit.
The DT40 has increased wear protection (research zinc and phosphorus) which the major brands significantly reduced thanks in part to the EPA.

Do it. One theory of failure is particulate unfiltered oil from a failed bypass in the OEM canister. For $150 it is about the cheapest protection you can get. And who cares about opening the filter. Get a magnetic drain plug.

I have no evidence to back this up but I swear my car runs better on Joe Gibbs DT40. I switched over for the first time about 200 miles ago. I have 120k miles on the car. The engine seems to run a tad quieter and the amount of white smoke I would get for a few seconds after start up has decreased.

Interestingly enough, I've had some "hunting idle" issues on DE/AutoX days. Yesterday, I ran XP9 and had no such issues. I'll find out at the track tomorrow if it was a fluke or if it really made that big of a difference. The XP9 is only rated at 750 miles so I filtered my DT40 through a 55 micron filter on a 5 gallon bucket and will put it back in when I'm done this weekend.

318touring im in the same boat being from Australia! Where did you get your spin on adapter from? My only concern around this mod is having to provide the correct filter make sure the dealership installs the filter correctly every service. I'll have to research where to buy the correct filters from. Planning to have mine installed at the end of the year during the next service.

Wouldn't be free shipping for me and my NZ friend! and taking into consideration the exchange rate, that would be some very expensive oil!
