Default Seen the Light... New Owner!

Ok, maybe this is a shameless post to flaunt my new purchase, but I'm rather excited!

how to screenshot on windows

Just picked up a 2002 Carrera C2 for just under $20k. I think I got a decent deal, but I'm open to having everyone tell me otherwise.

It has 100k miles (everyone freaks out whenever I tell them that), but has a new clutch, RMS, and IMS dual row retrofit. Pretty confident that it'll keep eating up tarmac for years to come.

My first car was a 1989 MR2, supercharged, so I'm no stranger to having the weight in the back.

Next was a stint in an STI, where I learned how to tune ECU's, the virtues of boost, and AWD...

followed by a miata that started life as an automatic, but ended up becoming a track car with ITBs...

and a turbo miata after that.

Opened up craigslist, and all it took was 24 hours from, "hey maybe I should get a 996..." to test driving, and immediately realizing this is the type of car I've been wanting. All of the fun/thrills/tossability of the MR2/Miata, with the power of an STI, but it's refined, and "practical" (coming from two seaters... yeah, I think it's pretty practical!)

Look forward to soaking up all the knowledge here... and I am legitimately hooked! Can't wait to dig into this platform and learn the car!

Congrats, it's always a cool feeling walking into the garage and saying "who's Porsche is that, oh yeah that's mine".

Enjoy it man, you made a great choice. If you're happy then you got a great deal.

Congrats, Love that MR2. I used to have both that gen MR2 and my fair share of Subaru's too.

You'll find that some members here actually went in the opposite direction by having a 996 and then getting a Miata.

Welcome doc, err, sour, err monkey, err dsm, damn we gotta work on a nickname for your nickname.

Beautiful car. I wouldn't worry about what you paid for it - especially if you got it for under $20k. You certainly didn't overpay. There are so many factors to consider with a 13 year old Porsche when it comes to what is an appropriate price. You've just got to make your best judgment and go with it. Frankly, only time will tell - if you have a couple of relatively repair free years with this car because it has been well-maintained, then you got a bargain.

As for mileage being just a tick over 100k, well, that means you're only going to get another 80k or so out of it before you have to start worrying about whether the engine is going to let go. So, assuming you put 10k miles per year on it, you've only got until late 2023 before you need to start worrying.

Two questions: What's the silver bumper in front of the Porsche attached to? And what's your evaluation of the LG front loading washer/dryer combo? (our washer/dryer is getting long in the tooth so I have an appliance purchase coming up)

Congrats! I've had mine for a year, and it continues to put a smile on my face everytime I drive it. Even though my Audi S8 is just as fast or faster, it just doesn't do the same thing for me as the 996 with the Fister exhaust!

Congrats and welcome..if it made it this far then I would not be too worried. If they are going to die it would have happened by now. Nice color

The way I look at it, if you paid $20K more for a newer/lower-mileage one it will depreciate that much for certain, and you will then be left with an older, high-mileage car. OTOH if heaven forbid you had to put $20K into a new engine on this one, you'd be the same cash-wise but have a car with a brand-new upgraded engine good for 200K. No way you can lose on this car.
