Comparing their 4.0 dyno sheet to a Flat 6 Innovations dyno curve for the Track Performer Stage 2 (4.0) is really interesting!
A Flat 6 Innovations 4.0 dyno curve REALLY embarrasses this MaxRPM 4.0 dyno curve.
Not just at the top, where most people look first, but the entire curve.
Not that I'm surprised...just more proof that I made the right choice!

I think there were a number of reasons...for starters, the seller did not seem to be paying attention the auction and the only way you would get a response was to tag him in a post. Even then, he was slow to respond and did not answer all of the questions asked. Some questions were posted multiple times before he would answer. As others mentioned, there were a lot of little things that were not addressed that could have been. The registration expired a year ago with no explanation. There was an error code listed in the PPI that the seller did not answer questions about. I was interested in the car but the longer the auction went on the less interested I became as there were just too many unanswered questions and what appeared to be a rather dodgy seller.
To steal a phrase from another BaT member, this was a masterclass in how NOT to sell a car on BaT. I was actually surprised that the car sold for as much as it did, but that seems to be far more common with BaT these days. Cars are getting bid up well beyond what they are worth and then sellers on other sites use those numbers/values as the basis for overpricing their cars.

Selling a car well takes a good amount of effort, but that can pay off in a higher asking price. BAT is usually good about that but looks like even there, meh examples can slip through the cracks. It seems like the owner didn't care to address the smaller issues and just counted on getting top dollar because BAT. To me, if an owner can't be bother to fix the little easy stuff, how can I trust them they did the big stuff properly? Even with zero mechanical know how, anyone can grab some microfiber towels and make the interior look fantastic. If they don't they just don't care enough and that's not someone I'd want to buy from.

Forgetting the GT3 dynos, the first dip in the M9x curve is normal, but the second one really hurts and makes the MaxRPM above put out lots less HP than a similar sized F6I engine.
Not just peak HP, but the entire curve is behind.
It's a little behind down low, but LOTs behind up high, and especially pronounced after 5000rpm all the way to redline.
I expected that the MaxRPM engine would be below the F6I engine.
It was just interesting to see how far behind.
Of course Jake has his own in house dyno, so you would expect that he has found lots of secrets to building a better performing engine and to have perfected M9x tuning.
I suspect if this engine was better tuned it might be closer, but I don't think it will ever rival a F6I engine without the rest of the attention to details that a F6I build receives.
For those waiting on their F8I time slot, here's a reason for the wait.
If you're in line, then you've seen the F6I dyno charts that I'm comparing the above to.

This is the first M96 graph I recall looking at. Do you know of a webpage or images of the dyno graphs showing the OEM 3.4, 3.6 & GT3 and also FSI so I can see how they compare?

I’ve found GT3 and M9x dyno charts using Google.
I think most came from Rennlist posts and I think I’ve gotten at least 1 from BAT.
F6I shows sample average dyno charts during the pre-Sales webinar.
Those also show before curves.
If the dyno chart for my engine ends up within 80% of the average they showed, I‘ll still be happy.

I find it amazing how some people can post a car on BAT with poor paint and dirty interior. A 996tt RUF modified was on there about a week ago, if you looked close the paint was in horrible condition and the interior needed a lot of cleaning. I would put my best effort into my car to make it look great, hell my car never looks that bad anytime.

I feel like they might have experienced an uptick of customers during covid and at they end of the day they are running a business. It seems like they have relaxed the rules of what gets on there... Let's just hope we don't see Corollas on there

I got a notice for this today:

996 Cab up now https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...-cabriolet-29/
Curious what that will do, I have a 99 cab with about the same mileage.

You would think that bidders would take needed work into account but it seems like a lot of them do not and the car(s) get bid up to stupid prices even though they sometimes need thousands of dollars worth of work or have undiagnosed issues that could be significant...

Knowing what I know about the M96 now I don't think I would buy one off of BaT. I'm sure plenty of them get bought up with people just looking at it is a relatively cheap way to get into a 911. I would by lying if I said I knew about bore scoring a few years ago when I bought mine but I felt like I worked enough on the purchase price to cover the IMS/AOS/Clutch though.
