There's one interior picture, which shows a red interior and a broken display below the tach. The former is probably why it's $15k.

Oh, I see that now. Thumbnail was X'd out for some reason so I didn't click on it. Btw, what's the most common cause for the LCD to break like that?

Base on the research I have found, the 997.2 with the DFI engine no longer has the IMSB. However, the performance gain is not significant to justify the price different with the 997.1. What I couldn't find was any info on the major difference between the 996.2 and 997.1 engine. Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, you're right the 997.2 DFI engine does not have an intermediate shaft. Overall, I understand your position, but disagree with your value statement.
In my case, and IMHO:
When I looked for and bought my 997.2 C4S, I didn't think there was enough of a difference between the 996.2, which I owned until 2009, and the 997.1 to justify the price difference; it's essentially just a re-body. So, starting last year, I looked for a 997.2 for the same reasons I looked for a 996.2 last time around.
I bought a 2009 997.2 C4S because '09s are priced lower even though they are the same as '10s and '11s. 385 hp is a huge difference from 320 hp in my 996.2, and the suspension bits in the .2 S cars are a substantial upgrade. Admittedly, I paid $10 - $12K more than a comparably equipped 997.1, but I had the money to spend and feel the price difference will hold in the car's value. I believe the all new 997.2 DFI motor, 30-35 more hp (than the 997.1 motors), suspension upgrades, PSM and PASM, satellite nav, bluetooth, and the new stereo head unit, are worth 20% of the higher purchase price. I have read commentary and had feedback from Porsche owners who say the 997.2 S is the epitome of 911 sports cars before the 991 ushered in the grand touring 911.
All in all, I think any 997.2, especially the 3.8 is worth the additional funds required for the driving experience, the maintenance potential, and the long-term value proposition. 3.8 is one of the largest NA motors that will probably ever go into a 911. The new cars will be smaller displacement turbos, setting aside the GT3 4.0 which is in a class by itself.
I think if I hadn't had the funds for the car I bought, I might would have bought another 996.2, probably a C4S. My 996 C2 was an awesome car and I wouldn't pay much extra just to have 997 headlamps.
IMHO The best of all models are the .2 cars. That's when Porsche has all the latest goodies in that model's body style.

Cheap '99 looks good. A smokin' deal may be achievable!

Potentially a pretty hot deal on a set of 18" Sport Classic wheels, especially if you're on Long Island. $300 opening bid, $150 shipping:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-996-...I/253108485465
If I didn't have too many wheels already I'd be all over these.

This is my first post. I know I still have a lot to learn about p-cars.
Here are a couple interesting fixer-upper 996s.
https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/d...271090681.html
Being in Houston, I hope this owner is ok /\
https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/d...253149497.html
This one looks rough but as a point of discussion, if anyone knows, what would need to be done for the door electronics to work again? (rain damage) He is suggesting the locking mechanism needs to be rebuilt. Could it be as simple as a fuse?
Also, I know paint shop rates vary widely depending on the quality (time) of the work. Any body want to throw some numbers out there on what these would cost to have resprayed? At least you could paint the hard top to match at the same time.
Based on the fact that these cars have been posted for a while, I think it's fair to say that their asking prices might be on the optimistic side. Agree or disagree?
Cheers - thanks everyone, this site is great, and has been really helpful in fueling my interest in looking for a 996.

In any case, when I see cars with clear coat problems, or mismatched tops, or even the steering wheel discolored, I think that the owner didn't care very much. He just wanted to hop in and drive, and he took shortcuts or ignored little issues. I think it indicates how well he took care of all things you need him to have taken care of, like oil changes. For example, why doesn't the guy with the mismatched top just fix the windows? That has to suck, not being able to open and close the windows. That would bug the living hell out of me. But this guy, he just doesn't care.
All that said, the lack of maintenance is reflected in the price. What is not reflected though, is the issues the car may have due to a lack of maintenance.
