Default Assistance please: One of my key remotes stopped working

A couple days ago, the battery in one of my key fobs died. I replaced the battery.

The red light on the fob lights now, but the remote still doesn't work to lock/unlock the doors. The other one works fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Use the other one?

Sorry, couldn't resist

I assume the trunk button doesn't work either? Does it still manually unlock the door and start the car fine?

You're sure you got the correct battery? Try the battery from the good key.

Take it back apart and re-seat everything and clean all the contacts.

I don't know if/how to reprogram the remotes, but that could be what needs to be done. If the battery was too dead that could have cleared the memory.

I think u have to have dealer reprogram your key fob. Have u tried inserting key manually on door and do lock/unlock and see if that activates the remote? Mike

Yep, checked the battery... correct one. It will manually lock and unlock the doors, and will start the car.

But, no go on the remote for the doors, trunk.

Gnat, yep, that's my fix for now... use the other remote. But, wanted to see if there was anything I could do to get this one working properly.

try resetting the fob....insert the battery reverse polarity for 10 seconds then insert it correctly.

One of mine stopped working and the dealer wanted $150 to reprogram it....as I was writing them a check for $4000+ for other work. Seems like they could have given me the extra 5-minutes worth of work, but maybe that's wrong headed of me.

One of mine did this. About a month later, the other one did the same damn thing - it was truly impressive that they managed to expire within a month of each other. I purchased two new remote heads, installed the cut keys from the busted remotes into the new heads, and paid the dealer $75 to program both new heads (which I purchased online, but can't remember where)...

I'll give that a try later today.

Does smacking the remote with a big hammer work? That's usually my final solution for repair projects.

You better double check that you didn't replace it with a Fabspeed battery.

^^^ Impossible, since they won't provide replacement parts.

Well, I tried that resetting procedure that wross suggested, but no go. Odd, the thing worked just fine until the battery died. Makes me think something in its brain has gone haywire.

I even tried several voodoo chants, but nada....

It definetely has to be the IMS issue, as always, whats causing the fault on your keyfob...no question about it.

^^^ I agree. I'll get the car flat-bedded in tomorrow.

Did a search, found some threads that addressed the exact same issue on some odd Porsche site. Tried the reset method in that thread. No go. The key is toast.

My only key did the same thing and I've tried everything and can't get it working again. The red light works when pushing buttons but no justice with the door or frunk

I don't mind so much except that using manually prevents me from opening my wife's door when we go out and also if you don't put the key in the ignition fast enough the alarm goes off.

So stupid to have to pay the dealer to re-program!
