Join PCA ??
While researching my purchase (before I discovered this board) I joined the PCA as a Quest member. I thought this would be a great source of information. Much to my disappointment this was and is not the case. Before I join as a full member I would like to better understand what I would get out of it other than a nice sticker for my rear window.
Thanks,
Steve

Camaraderie, discounts on parts, discounts on repairs if you deal with a dealer, discounts on PCA sponsored track days, inclusion on cool car events and more. I toured Chip Ganassi's shop a few years back with the local club. It was an after hours tour.
Bottom line for the $42 spent per year there is a lot of opportunity if you look for it. The membership is a drop in the bucket. Money well spent!

I agree with what Pete said! I'm my region we get drives through the mountains, and DEs with fantastic instructors included. That alone is worth the price of admission. At least in my region, a private instructor can run around $100 per hour of track time. Along with all that you get a great magazine.
Check the Barber Motorsports Park Calendar of events.

Here's from a post I made a couple months ago in a similar thread (the list would be quite a bit longer now:
In the last few months, I've done the following with my PCA region:
- Attended 5 Cars & Coffee events
- Attended a classic car show and dinner
- Did a Time, Speed, Distance rally
- Did a group drive up to the local mountains.
- Attended a baseball game where the PCA region got a reserved seat section
- Attended a "3rd Tuesday of the Month" dinner.
- Attended Porsche Driving School and an Autocross
- Got a discount for service at my local indy shop
- Signed up for an upcoming DE
- Ordered parts for a couple cars, at a great price (one of my PCA chapter members owns a parts supply business)
- Received reams of great advice
- Met a bunch of great people
- Some other stuff I can't recall at the moment

My wife has been a member (I'm an associate) for the majority of the 13 years she's owned the 996. Out of that the Autocross class I took in my Cayenne last spring is the only PCA event either of us has attended (introverts). We'll still continue to re-up though as we find the local and national magazines well worth the yearly cost for the information that they provide.
Looks like the real benefit is participating in the local club and regional activities. I'm convinced, signing up today.
I live about 10 miles from Barber. [probably should have left the sticker comment off].

As others have said, one of the benefits is getting together with like-minded people (at least in terms of car marque enthusiasm) and going on interesting drives. I bought my P-cars for the driving experience and for the beauty of the cars.
To me, traveling to a destination or just a scenic drive in the company of great looking/performing cars and interesting people of all social cross-section is much more enjoyable than the same drive alone.
The PCA motto is "Its not just the cars, its the people" which might sound a bit cheesy at first, but as time goes by the people and camaraderie are becoming an important part of PCA involvement to me.
Oh, and the Panorama magazine is quite good and as others have said, getting better all the time.

+ Under a new editor Panorama is rapidly eclipsing Excellence as the best US Porsche magazine.
