Mine has the 'low' mileage of 117k on it now. Bought with 102k on it, did a clutch and LN ims on it. I'm the second owner, the first owner seemed to pamper it, its a cab so I doubt it's ever seen a track. Was used for weekend drives etc.
California car so hasn't been in a cold climate
2004 CS4. Inherited from Dad who had front axles and coolant tank replaced at 104K. In 4 months I’ve had her it’s been tires, PS 4s are great BTW, water pump, thermostat, belt, filters, oil, alternator, oil fill tube, frunk actuator (Ty forum on how to get in) air condensers, wheel liner, assorted bulbs and fasteners and replaced the display in the environmental control. Almost forgot replacing worn Velcro and elastic on the top liner. About 10k so far. Most in the garage except for the air condensers and top work. Not concerned about IMS on its own, it’s a high mileage car with a tiptronic. Had local shops tell me they have not seen any failures with high mileage trips. That said if I had a need to have transmission work done, I’d get it replaced then. Love the car, don’t regret what’s been put into it so far, still think I’m ahead in the grins per mile category.
Trying to better understand the
Durability of 996's I did research
Of mileage on cars in the marketplace
I searched autotrader and ebay
and found 60 cars with over
100k miles and none mentioned
Replaced ims or replaced engine
Some may have been advertised
in both and there are several other formats for sales
I think these high mileage cars
Bode well for the durability issues.
If your 996 is over 100k please post, if you of a 996 with the highest miles please post
I'm at 110k miles now on my 99 C2, but I know thats hardly the most. There are at least a few Carreras over 250k and there's a .2 GT3 in Europe thats done mostly track miles at ~300k km, or nearly 190k miles (here's a vid on it:
The car I bought but never took posession or title of and immediately sold to my young friend, has 198,300 miles. They think still original clutch and IMS bearing.
DRIVEN!
