Default WTB > 1999 996 coupe - 6speed - silver/black - $17,000

all,

i want to buy a 1999 996, 6 speed, silver/black or dark blue w/under 90K miles.

i've been a renniist member for quite some time and am currently porscheless since selling my 1990 964 2 years ago. i almost purchased a 1999 996 in the bay area this past spring but the car had some issues and i decided to walk.

throughout my search which has been fairly extensive over the past year, i've noticed cars that have an asking price of $18-19K ultimately sell in the $17K range. these are cars that have either had replaced engines or a some have had the IMS and RMS upgrade.

i am looking for a well maintained 996 silver/black (or dark blue) with under 90K miles and willing to pay up to $17,000 for a good example. prefer california car.

I have 100K on my car so I guess I'm out.....add 5-6K to your number and you just might have few takers. I think a "good example" and "pay up to 16,000" don't jive for me.....guess I'm just hoping our values start to increase. Good luck with your search.

Now that would be a good buy! Take the left over 5K and throw into mods.

theres a 99 silver/black with upgraded IMS and RMS locally here in seattle w/95K miles for $18K firm.

i think i can do better and i love the drive home from southern california.

**wanted to also mention that i don't mean any disrespect to 996 owners on this forum however i have seen lots of really good examples in the $16K - $17K range over the past year... i've just been late in responding to the sellers.

Check the usual suspects...Autotrader, Cars.com, etc. It will be very tough to find what you are looking for here or PCA. The price point you are looking at are beaters.

$18k is not bad considering the ims has been upgraded and possibly clutch replaced. I'm sure the $16k car you buy will need a clutch replace anyway so at $18k your right there..

i agree that $18K is probably a more realistic price point but i am sure there is someone out there who will accept $16K or $16.5K for their sorted car with the RMS/IMS upgrades.

i'm in no rush and at some point i hope to find one before spring.

Owner who would've done rms/INS upgrade on a manual would at minimum have changed the clutch out that service would be around $3k parts and labor. It would be more if they did flywheel, aos, tranny flush.. Not sure an owner would unload a car at $16-16.5 after spending that amount. That would net them $13k after paying for the rms/ims upgrade. Man I just sold a 02 Boxster S with 72k miles on it for $15800 with rms/ims done. Not sure if a 996 would sell for that unless it had a salvage... Anyhow good luck with your search...

+1 Unrealistic to get a well sorted car in that price range.

Keep walking. Don't look back. Do not pass Go. And, steer clear of any $16K 996.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

That's my $.02,

chsu74...appreciate the lead.

eric...you are in connecticut correct?...the reason i ask is that out here on the west coast, if you plug yourself in to the porsche market the findings are pretty awesome. cars that have been serviced properly and in excellent condition.
i'm originally from ny and would never buy a car from the east coast or the one in the above post for sale from texas. east coast cars have way too much abuse from salted roads and basic weather conditions and not as desired as cars from west coast. also many texas cars i've heard about or looked into have flood damage or sometimes hail damage.

also the car for sale in the above post from texas has too many miles.

i want a silver/black (or dark metrol blue interior)996 6speed w/under 80K miles...preferable in the 70K range or less and i am raising my allowance to $17,000-$17,500. i know in a year or 2 i will get bored with the car and probably want a 997.
buying a 996 with lower miles/well serviced w/complete records from california will give me the best resale value because i am aware of what porsche buyers want when looking to buy...just like me. over the past 25 years i've purchased 10 911's and lots of 356's in california...i love the cars and also enjoy the road trip home. i'm a drummer and the best shop for collectible drum equiptment is in san rafael...also some of the best sushi

i will only buy a car from california. there are so many excellent examples and this time of year going into the winter is when i have seen great 996's at fair prices.

i found 2 in los angeles, one has 48K miles and the other 54K miles. both owners are asking $18.5K-$19K. both owners have my# and if they don't sell their cars they will contact me.
i know i'll find my car its just a matter of time and i'm in no hurry.
