997 shifter vs B&M (That is in car)
We had a local swap meet today (No H4's Ed, I looked) and I picked up a brand new 997GT3 shifter that was priced right, from the part number it does seem to be the 7GT3 unit but also seems to be the same as a regular 997. Not the factory SSK.
Is it worth dropping in? I know the shifts wont be as short but probably smother than the B&M, anyone had both?
I do like the B&M, I know some do not. My car is 98% street driven.
Thanks
Since you guys love pics, crappy cell phone pic included

I've been considering a 997 shifter. The throw is about 15% shorter that the stock 996 unit and supposed to be noticeably smoother. The 997GT3 shifter is identical to the 997 model with billet aluminum instead of plastic bushings. Suncoast has them for $194-997 or $350-997GT3. I can't decide if it's worth the extra $156 dollars for the GT3 version! Here's the link: 997shifter
PS- If you decide not to keep it I'd be interested in taking it off your hands.

first thing I noticed about my 997 was how shorter the throw is from my 996
it has me no longer even considering a kit - one of the things that stands out (well, that and the 3.8L)

Marc the 997s and 997.1GT3 had the same shifter. A big improvement over the 996 and the B&M, and great for street and track use.
The 997.2 GT3 has the newer shifter which feels almost the same like the previous 997 one but is a bit better made and more robust with a few more metal parts.
Do the change and you won't regret it.

"Ed-ism" is very contagious... at least this part will fit. I must confess, I did buy a gt3 shifter from mooty.... also at a great price. Im in similar shoes, is it worth installing?.... Im happy with what I got (B&M). The plan is to get another pcar and try to fit the gt3 shifter in there..... getting the car is the brick wall though.
There was also a 6gt3 steering week there, the thicker one. I really regret not buying it. Damn.

The question my air cooled friend is not is it better than stock but is it better than the B&M that both Ferd and I currently have.
