soverystout-thanks for the answer
As an update...got home early and called the dealer. He basically blew me off and literally said my car was too old for a warranty. They use Universal warranty...not fidelity. So i guess my only option remains easycare. anyone else have advice? the other post about easycare dodging a claim currently doesnt make me feel too much better about the situation

there are many other warranties out there I hope someone could bring a list made from previous research, personally I only looked into fidelity and easy care as they were the one sold by the closest porsche dealer.
I'd suggest to call all the Porsche dealer within like 500 miles range to see what they sell.

I bought my car in 2000 with 4K miles. When it was coming off the factory warranty in 2004 I bought an EasyCare "TotalCare" policy ( pretty much comprehensive with a few exclusions), had a $200 deductible, 4 years and 75,000 miles. The total cost was $2,660.00. Bet they won't match that price or coverage any more.
During the covered period they paid for an RMS (which covered the labor for a clutch replacement done at the same time) and to replace leaking cam sensors. I think the total payout by them was about $1,800, so I was a little in the hole.
Of course the policy expired in Jan. 08 and I did not renew it or find another as cash flow was tight. Then in Sept. 08 I had the dreaded intermix. Bad timing that. The Porsche dealer said based on their experience EasyCare would probably have tried to source a used engine rather than paying up for a reman, but who knows as the warranty expired.
I fixed the cracked head myself for about $1,500 in parts and the repair of the head, and a lot of my own time. Still probably less than a warranty would have cost.

Purchased car from another owner; then purchased an extended warranty from Fidelity ("Royal Protection Plan - Platinum" three years/36K miles) from local Porsche Dealer. Dealer inspected the car prior to issuing warranty.
Recently replaced spoiler hydraulics (common problem) for $1500, covered under extended warranty. Warranty agent inspected and approved repair prior to work being performed.
Agent also approved replacement of complete spoiler mechanism ($3700) if it was required for full repair.

fwiw, i do not think the same warranty that i purchased is offered by aaa.
while i paid approx. $2600 for mine, i would have to determine if the extra 2k is worth it.
bear in mind that this is a 2000 car we are talking about, a 3.4, and not a "fixed" 3.6.

i do not think so.
i just drive it like it was meant to be driven.
36k on it now w/no problems.
just had wrench replace coolant expansion tank====n/c-warranty.
other than that, had a cpu replaced early on---porsche emissions warranty covered that.
that's it, zip, zero, nada, goose egg.
