Default Easycare warranty quote seems extremely high

Picked up a 2000 C2 with 35k miles a few months ago. I'm trying to get a warranty, but Easycare has quoted me at $3900 for only 30 months, 30k miles, 250 deductible. This is not a bumper to bumper warranty, but just the "statedcare" that covers everything thats not a wear item (Clutch change is NOT included). Searching this forum, it seems that my quote is pretty high compared to other easycare contracts and other companies.

PPI said my clutch is probably going to go soon, so i could always just put the upgraded IMS bearing in, but i'm afraid that other stuff is going to come up. The previous owner had a warranty and the car never went into the shop for a claim. I have 38k on it now and havent had any problems other than a busted water pump which you obviously cant see coming. Are there any other current companies (im located on the east coast) that are better than easycare w/ 996s?

Also, this pcar has not had an RMS leak. If it hasnt leaked by now, will it ever need to be? Since Easycare covers the RMS, i figured i would just buy the new clutch parts out of pocket when the RMS is being done under warranty...but if it aint broke, I'm not sure if it will need fixed when the clutch needs changed.

When I was searching for aftermarket warranties before I purchased my 2004 C4S about 3 months ago I looked at both Fidelity and Easycare. Timing is everything and the warranties were going up, Easycare much more so than Fidelity at the time. Similar coverage on my car was almost $2K more for Easycare so it made the choice pretty simple. In my case, I also chose to go with a bumper-to-bumper coverage as it was only $800 more than the powertrain-only coverage.

I bought a 2003 C2 with 28k miles in march, in April I paid $2800 for Fidelity platinum coverage, which is the most complete, for 2 years and 25k miles.
Easycare was the same price but their website is so crappy I simply ignore those guys.

Good thing with fidelity is that they will pay you back for any unused portion, aka if you sell the car before the end of the warranty. I liked that part considering I will never be able to factor in that cost at resale.

One more thing I bought this from the Porsche Dealer Boardwalk in Dallas. I really wish they would sell direct as I don't like to pay a broker fee where no service is rendered ! !!!

Since you have a year that is subject to intermix, I would definitely get a warranty of some sort. My 2000 C2 developed intermix at 58K. Up until then, it was perfect with a dry RMS. When and if that happens, your choices are few and all painful. Now I have a rebuilt Porsche motor with a 2 year warranty but at what cost? Penny wise - pound foolish.

That seems high. I got maxcare for $3200 60k or 5 years. It already paid for itself....coolant tank, engine mounts, transmission gasket replacement (which basically requires the non covered wear and tear transmission service for free), condenser, water pump....

I got it through carmax but it Is a company that handles most of the warranties, google maxcare and call them..they will give you the name of the main company that holds the warranties

Bought my '02 c4 cab with 38k miles from a dealer 2 years ago this november and paid $3,400 for easycare's total care package... 4 years, 48k miles
Paid for itself within 90 days: RMS replacement, coolant tank leak, ect...
paid for a new clutch out of pocket, but no labor for install since they already had it apart..
since then they have repaired bent or cracked rims 3 times (Houston roads suck!) and a few other items so it has definitly been worth it! Have another 22 k miles to have the engine go for a $250 replacement!

None of the warranties will cover a clutch as it is a wear item.

lol, and I thought the $3,400 was high, as I got the car at near wholesale.. $29,500. more than 10% of the price! Thought otherwise when the first visit to the dealer totalled almost $6k and only paid $2k! (reg maintenance included...)
Worth every penny in the end!

I think after reading the forum that it is pretty clear that the cars have maintenance potential The extended warranty is a no brainer for me.

The peace of mind $2800, shutting up the wife bitchin'... priceless !

For what it's worth, I've had my 996 3 years now, and have spent less than that on maintenance. And most of that has been on consumable parts (battery, brakes, oil changes, tires, etc.). The parts that might be covered by a warranty like that would have the deductible applied - $150 radiator fan, $85 wheel speed sensor, $50 oil pressure sensor, etc. (And it does help that I do my own labor.)

$4k in a CD account or something is probably money better spent.

It's also worth pointing out that an IMS bearing retrofit and RMS replacement, if done together, would cost less than half of that policy... if you're concerned about sleeping well at night, I'd spend the money on that.

I have spent $3K on maintenance (brakes, battery, oil tires...) and $10K+ on Mods during the past 3.5 years of ownership. This website is the cash drainer; not the car.

I agree that the extended warranty main bummer for me, is that is means I can't enjoy working on the car, to replace small things, like water pump and stuff like that.

I think if you work on the car yourself, save the money and invest in tools if you plan to bring it to the dealer for all stuff then warranty is probably a good choice.
