Default How much oil do you use?

How much oil does your 99/996 use? Mine seems accessive.. But yet I am not smoking at all and its not leaking. On the 2 changes I have done to the car. Nothing in the filter and very little on the magnetic drain plug. Just a light coat of mouse hair fine metal on the plug.. Less than I get out of my chebby.

120,000 miles AOS maybe?

At 105,000 miles I burn no oil...I think my car is a bit rare not to consume any...but I've never added any during my changes at 10k miles and I never need to add to keep the level up.

Mine consumes very little oil between changes either. Maybe a half quart every 3,500 miles.

All my air cooled Porsches never used oil. My first water-cooled car (997S) uses a quart every 1000 miles. Has done so from the moment I picked it up at Zuffenhausen. Am currently at 48,000 miles.

I changed the oil in my '99 today. After 7500 miles it was down a little more than 1/2 quart. The car has 67,000 miles.

I've never had to add oil in between oil changes and I'm at 112K.

1 quart in 1k miles is Porsche acceptable usage.... I know its crazy, but even the new cars, Porsche say its fine. Mine doesnt use any oil, but I change my oil every 3000 miles.... yeah Im old school.

Yeah Im old school too.. And the ol chebby v8 only burned it if you really beat the snot out of it.

I do run my cars. Being I take a fare amount of short trips, I do tach it up between the lights. This is the way i have driven all my cars and knock on wood, I have never had a major engine problem.

I do try to change every 3K But this time it got to 5 before I did it and in this 996 their is so much of it, I dont think it will hurt it to go 5... but I hear dads voice in my head to get'r done at 3K. Im going to keep my eye on it

It varies a lot with car/engine, driving style, oil, etc. The rule of thumb use to be a qt./2500 miles was excellent. Porsche and others consider more than a qt./600 miles excessive - except for racing/track use.
