I have about 12k miles on a reman engine that's been in the car for four years and I've never had to add oil between changes. I change it once a year, whether it needs it or not.

Mine burned about a quart to 2 quarts every 6k but that was last year when I was autocrossing the car quite a bit. This year It's not burned hardly any (gauge went down 1 dot) since I've had it's oil changed over the winter. I've driven it maybe a around 2k since the oil change.
Interesting, how it burns less with more leisurely driving.

My '99 w/53K miles uses .5 qt. each 3,000 miles ( one qt. between oil changes). My previous 993s (had two of them) used about twice that amount or more, especially if many short trips were the norm.

Yeah, I'm thinking aos. It's weird. I'm at 2000 miles since top off and haven't used hardly any. Huh. Today may be a good day to change that.

MY 1981 SC never used oil at all. My 77 used it only just before the engine was rebuilt. My 06 uses oil like water. I have consumed as much oil in 50,000 miles to top off as I have changed oil during routine oil and filter services. There are issues with the water cooled engines that lead to excessive oil burning that even Porsche doesn't know why. The AOS will contain the burning off of this oil in such a way that you'll never seen it smoking, but that stuff is burning off inside the engine someplace.

I thought snythetic doesn't smoke much if at all.
One thing is if the car is doing humdrum driving back and forth without some good long runs to heat and burn off water in the oil then it can be a surprise after a good trip that the oil level has gone down. The article I was reading on porsches concerning the oil level change didn't put any miles or kilometers to a required run to burn the water out but I'd figure a full tank plus some on the hwy's should work.
