Speaking of "hearing" your car... One thing that happens now and that is I'm driving down a side street and someone standing in front of their house yells SLOW DOWN! yet I'm probably doing 15-20 miles per hour. Blow by the same person in the wifes Audi at 35 and they don't even look.
I do not speed down side streets, too many kids & dogs!

Usually it's a mom type or a grumpy old "get off my lawn" old guy

That should fix all your problems.
I think that would be the "start" of the problems (at least for me... and maybe James too )

this happened to me in both cars - taking the kids to work I have had walkers yell or signal "slow down"
actually I ussually stop +(since I am going all of 20mph) and ask how fast they think I was going? Then point out that I have 2 spedometers (in the 996) and that I was going 18mph in a 25......and repeat... how fast whould you like me to drive..

yup, like Marc said... "well it looked fast"
my reply is always the same... looked fast or sounded fast is not fast.... as an suv bombs by at 35+ with someone aplying make-up

3) People "speed up" when they see you trying to get into their lane
4) Yesterday, while sitting in the car getting ready for a meeting, I see this parking meter maid (male) go half a block straight to my car while not looking at the other cars, check my parking meter, and then proceed towards the front of my car to give me a ticket. I had to open the door to let him know I literally just parked there and haven't even gotten out of the car yet. He says, "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you in the car." since my car's windows were tinted.

So does this happen to all you other 911 owners? This is the only car I've owned where this "car owner hating" has been pretty blunt. Doesn't happen to my Lotus, M3's, Audi's, etc. My RED Boxster S, on the other hand, gets serious respect. People actually STOP to let me into their lane or stop to let me into the intersection, etc...(same with the Ferrari). What gives?
Its called JEALOUSY! I get alot of that stuff here where I live at too. Its the people that cant afford a 911 porsche. But not all people are like that. I had some people follow me into a gas station and Giant parking lot to tell me how nice my porsche is.

Hey Ed so you've got long hair too.

It doesn't happen to often (cause I look a big ugly girl from behind) but when it does I try to make a little $$ on the side by saying "hey baby wanna party?"

That gets rid of them real fast

I definitely notice people go out of their way to get in my way when I'm in my bucket, but I think some of them are actually just trying to get a better look at a 911. I often do this whenever I see an exotic Lambo or *gasp* Ferrari just because it's exciting to see and hear one in motion.

OMG! I am so glad to see that it happens to others too!
I just thought our neighbors didn't like me for some reason because I constantly get these scowls as i drive through our development always but always under the speed limit and i can't say how many times i wanted to stop and ask "what is the problem?"
Oh well................can't win!

Not the way I drive. Old ladies get up and yell, "Is that all the faster you can go? WTF??? Why own that thing??? Get a Yugo!"

By the 3rd or 4th rant, I've usually made it past their house so I can pretend I didn't hear them.

I actually ran into a far younger version of myself yesterday.

Coming out of the grocery store, heading to my car I see a boy (probably around 10 years old) and his mother getting out of there minivan.

The boy walked up past my car and looked in the side window as his mom was walking inbetween a few cars that were closer to the door of the supermarket.

He sees me push the key to unlock the door and says "Nice Porsche!"

I smiled and said "thank you!" he walked backwards the rest of the way towards the door of the grocery store as his mom said, "watch where your going!!!"

That was me 20 years ago.

whats really great is (Mother/Father approved) letting those 10y/o kids get in... behind the wheel!!

man their little faces light up and you can see the wheels turning....they are hooked!
(my first boy is a Lotus nut... now he is really hooked!)

I get a kick out of young kids who stare at the car when driving. You know what they are thinking since we were all there when we were young.
