Ted,

I'll be dropping you a note as well. I'm looking at a 40AE right now.

All-

With that short PM, @jhbrennan derailed my prior 40AE deal from going down, and instead I bought his!

This is car #164 (so @TAZ40JAHRE you can update your Registry).

@jhbrennan has been a wonderful steward of this car. It's in great shape, well kept, low miles, and with both the original wheels (that I need to go back and pick up tomorrow) with good rubber on them, and on the vehicle today are HRE 305M (Monoblock) in a closely matching silver. It's now at MY house and I hope to keep it in as good condition as he has.

By the way, in the last month I've test driven two others, one is being sold by my old high school buddy for the widow of his recently deceased brother. That car is high mileage (~97K miles) but seems mechanically sound, and you can find it by searching for "40th Anniversary" on San Francisco Craiglist. The second is in Kerrville Texas and is under 50K miles, VERY clean, and you can find that by searching for Greg Maxwell Motors in Kerrville.

This car of mine has the IMS Solution done as well as lots of other work, and was the best one for me.

@bplein Congrats! Really happy for you. Jeff knows the 40ths as well as anyone (lol - he should since he's now owned two of them).

Got mine this afternoon. Hope the weather is better tomorrow so I take a few pictures. I "think" it is number 519, but candidly the console plaque is hard to read with a flashlight. Is the serial number someplace other than the console?

Hal - congrats! If you bought the one that Steve in Virginia was selling it is indeed Nr. 0519. If you shoot me an email I've got some items about your car I can send you and I can get a few details to update the Registry records. Welcome aboard!

Ted

Ted, It is, in fact, Steve's car. Where do I find your email?

Today was relatively warm and dry, so a good day for a quick clean and a couple of pictures of my car. Picked it up Saturday, as mentioned above.

The car is overall really nice. There are a few paint imperfections I will work on, but nothing nasty or unexpected. That said, do the rear bumperette caps just pop off? Couldn't find an attachment screw. Wheels are good. Just a couple of minor scrapes and no pitting from high metal content brake pads. Interior feels almost new, with the exception of the natural grey floormats. I am going to get a few color samples from Lloyd Mats and see how close they come to matching.

Otherwise, everything works as it should. I am very happy.

Underneath the bumperettes is a hole, and up inside that hole is the attachment bolt head. It is an allen head bolt of which I don't remember the size. An allen head socket and an extension is what you need to reach the bolt.

Thanks, DBJoe996. What you describe is exactly what I saw on my old ‘99 996, and my current 986S. But the 40th Anniversary seems to have a cover of some sort, where the old bumperette is located. I’ll go double check later today, but pretty sure there was not a hole as you describe.

May be a cap covering the hole like in this diagram http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=802-07

Yes, the diagram has the actual bumperette. Here is a link to Suncoast and a paintable replacement part. Maybe it will help.

Byprodriver, I am not now in the market, but then again, I wasn't going to get this car either! Is it listed here in the Classifieds?
