2 stories - I will be quick (promise)
a couple days ago while driving the suburban with the kids and dogs a 996 was at a 4 way stop as I was approaching it. He/she crossed in front of me and I opened the passenger window so I could listen to the exhaust as it pulled away... as I stopped and heard the stupidest sounding rattle trap - WTF noise ever!!!... I turned to look and the noise was actually coming from a weedeater up the street that the guy had on like medium speed....
I chuckled and thought, man if that person knew what I thought of thier stock exhaust !!
OK and today, I rode a lap in a Boxster S 09' and was really surprised!! (a very good driver, and very young ! ) - I then drove 3 of my hottest laps ever just to save face for the 911's !! the second trip must have been fun to watch because the lead instructor, another instuctor and a couple of students said...WOW, that looked awesome ! - I felt pretty good, but the new Boxster is really a nice driving machine and I will not make fun of them anymore. I mean if someone really wants a girls Porsche, then I wont say a thing
Awe easy - you know I was joking... its not a "girls car"
a woman's Porsche There

As I was riding in a flatbed yesterday through the backwoods of South Carolina, my driver decided to stop at a convenience store to pick up some snacks. I stayed in the truck with the windows down as we were parked pretty close to the side of the road.
A bunch of locals inside of a pickup truck yelled, "DEAD PORSCHE!" out of the window as they drove by laughing.
I wanted to respond, "She's not dead, just injured..." but they were down the street quite a bit before I could even open my mouth.

drove by a new driving school that just opened up -
I dont think they are a performance school as much as an "HELP ME NOW" school, still the sign caught my eye as it was shiny - my son took the pic on his phone... Kudos to him for a nice drive by shot!

Bucket List Story
My story is short, but definitely sweet for me.
I just bought my first Porsche. You may have seen it for sale on the Rennline web site as it is the owner's car (it is still on the site www.rennline.com/996.) Beautiful 2000 996 cab, silver, boxster red interior, GT3 wheels, lowered, 26K miles and Mille Miglia exhaust...music to my ears.
Well, I'm turning 40 this month and happened to have a trip to Scotland to tour Scotch distilleries already planned when this Porsche popped up so this is how the last few weeks have gone for me.
A week before my Scotland trip I found a, what is now my, beautiful Porsche on ebay and it was "the one". I was the high bidder, but did not meet the reserve. So I called the owner, also the owner of Rennline, and negotiated a price. Probably a little higher than market, but with all the extras, spousal unit's approval (a sure sign) and the way it struck me, I'm good to go with it.
So I make plans to fly to VT from Charleston, SC to pick up the car the day after I get back from Scotland...what a deal. The day after I buy the ticket I find out that I'm being sent to Africa for 2 weeks for work, which I don't mind, but they want me to leave in the middle of picking up the car. I say I've got tickets purchased to be somewhere else and I'll catch up with the team a day later. Done deal.
Spent 4 days in Scotland and one in London with 9 friends, fly back spend a day at home, fly to VT pick up the my first Porsche drive until about 1:30 AM and make it to Baltimore, drive the rest of the way to Charleston the next day, spend a day at home and take a 50 hour journey to Djibout, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, which is where I sit and drink one of my 3 alloted beers and write this story.
Can't wait to get home to the new Porshce...and the family.
I guess that wasn't so short...sorry.

Drifting
Okay, so for a while, before the internet, a car sales friend and I would go to Orlando in March. He would buy caddies, I would buy one 944 to bring back to MN to sell. Fun deal, "you can own a Porsche for $10,000!!" YUP, I would say, and would not say you can own one just like this for $8,000, I do. FUN. So I am coming back from FL and into Iowa in the morning. I'm doing 90, hands in the 10 an 2 position, seat belt on, antennae out for Iowa's Finest (speed limit was 55 then) and I get passed!!! Not only passed, but the girl was obviously on her way to work and late as she was putting on make-up in her rearview mirror. It was a Sunbird with bad, bad shocks, too. If I'm lying, I'm dying. The clincher was her personalized plates
ANITA P I swear.
Now, I need to pee

One more...
The day I had at home between trips we took the new Porsche to dinner and for a cruise along the beach and into downtown. As we drove away from the gas station my 12 year old says, "this exhaust makes me laugh, when I hear it I smile too big to just smile I have to laugh." He's got it in his blood like his old man.

Drove all the way to work and never got fast enough to deploy the rear spoiler , plenty of open spots to safely sprint into the "fun zone" yet I just kept it under 70 ???
That was wierd - hope to not repeat that trip every again
