This happened to me a few days ago on my way to work in the morning and I was in my M3.

I got off a tollroad and was in the left lane on the service road. I was at a stoplight behind a minivan. A guy in a 996 Mk2 was behind me; he wanted to make a u-turn and he was one impatient ****. He kept honking his horn to get me to edge forward so he could make the u-turn, but I was about 1.5' behind the minivan and I would have to plant myself into the minivan in order to give him enough space to make the u-turn. The dude appeared to get more and more upset w/ every second as I could see him shaking his head and hands. Finally, when the light turned green and traffic started moving, he threw out another honk.

Ok, it's not really a funny story, but I've been wanting to vent about it since then. If it was any of you Dallas locals, then I just want to tell you that you're a big JACKASS and give Porsche owners a bad rep; and you're damn lucky that I did not catch your tags, otherwise, you would get a very nice NAMBLA subscription among all things.

That is all.

Years ago I exit a highway near where I used to live and the ramp (Eastbound Hwy 401@ Weston Rd. in Toronto) has a big S bend and turning into the second bend I come face to face with a guy coming UP the off ramp! I hit the brakes hard as my wife starts yelling OMG and the other guy stops right in front of me with about 4 feet to spare.

We sit looking at each other for about 5 seconds and then he... HONKS at US! Here I am worried that other cars are going to hit us who come off the highway and this **** thinks I'm the one who has screwed up???

I throw my 4 ways on and both my wife and I are signaling him to back up and he HONKS again at us! It's dusk and I can see a couple of headlights coming up behind us and I'm praying they can stop which thankfully they did. We now have a couple of cars stopped behind ours and it was ONLY when there were other cars - did this guy *now* figure *he* was in the wrong. (&^$#@@!

The next bit was funny. He simply couldn't back up straight if his life depended on it. He backs up and almost into the concrete ramp wall - then forward a bit then backwards - nope, not right, change angle, move forward etc, etc. I nailed it as soon as there was room and passed him as did all the others behind me some of whom were honking at him and giving him a 'salute'. I now wonder years later if he was drunk and maybe I should have checked? Although he did look like he was over 60 so it could have been age related, <shrugs>.

My wife has her theory that so far (including this guy) is spot on. If someone is wearing a hat (he was) in a coupe while driving - LOOK OUT - 'Danger Will Robinson'!

She thinks the hat bands reduce blood flow to the brain or something so she steers clear of them before they involve her in their coming at some point, wreak. Maybe she is on to something.

There's about a two minute stretch of my 4:30 in the morning commute that brings me joy every day... The offramp from SR 52 Westbound to I5 Northbound has a dip on the ramp leading to about a 10 incline on I5... gliding into the ramp at about 60 mph then hitting it at the apex for the jump to 80 and listening to the motor humming for more... and hyperspacing past the Camrys and Accords up the hill...

Every day.

the first day i test drove a 996TT i was at a houston underpass with a unobstructed u turn waited looked for cars nothing open 4 lanes ahead and took off power shift 2nd and grab 3rd shut er down to speed limit and begin to merge onto the freeway and i notice there is 2000ish camaro like 5ft off my *** i look at the salesman and said theres a camaro all over my *** he says show em some porsche love. so i down shift grab another gear and run it out n upshift this put about 30car lengths between us i slow down to normal speeds he pulls up next to us we have huge **** eating grins on our faces, his girl is laughing at him and smiling looking at the silver 996TT he acts like he wants to go from a roll and i down shift and wait for him and then just do a pull and put about 8 car lengths on him almost instantly and hit the off ramp laughing. this is one of the expirences that led to me buying a porsche next week since this expirence was a week ago =)

the sales then replies you know i thought after 4 months of selling these cars id get used to that feeling but it never gets old wanna test drive another>?

Quite entertaining, but lucky it ended up funny. A few people have died and a few people are screwed for life this summer from 2-3 separate instances of people driving the wrong way on the highway here. Down here, compact car means 3/4 ton truck and playin chicken at 80mph ends up real ugly.

Hey, I like that "hyperspacing" did you just make that up?

I often come up behind LLB's (left-lane bandits) and pause to see if they might move over.....
(I think most American drivers are just pretty clueless about the concept of a fast lane, or moving to the right.)

Funny sometimes as I grab a gear to pass I often see them looking up in their rearview mirror as I "hyperspace" past them.....

I do the same. maybe 1 out of 15 moves over... but 3 of 5 will get on the highway and merge at 45 mph and then cut 2 lanes of traffic to be in the fast lane ... still going 45mph.. NYC for ya. I high beamed a guy going 50 in the left lane with no traffic on the highway and he wouldn't move, past him and his passageway stuck his head out the window and yelled at me to slow down and respect other cars on the hightway

Not sure... the image I had was back from the Star Wars movies, when they hit the button and all the stars become streaks and wham, they're in a whole 'nother galaxy... which is a good description of what I meant... driving up that hill all of those other cars are static lights... kick my ride in the ***... and those lights are only red streaks as I go by... Glad you liked the analogy...

After the usual license, registration, he asks, do you know why I stopped you? I said, I guess you saw me go around the corner. He said, yep, I saw you go around the corner. "Next time, make sure there isn't a cruiser on patrol sitting at the red light with all the other shmucks when you punch it with your $80-100k car." Funny, because the base price of my car was about 80k, and with options it was about 110k. I guess he knew what he was talking about. I said "sorry," he said "no problem." And off I went.
Very Nice!

I had a similar incident about 4 months ago (getting on the freeway), except I ended up in handcuffs and a $600 ticket (for allegedly rolling thru a redlight).

I used the Ticket Assasin website as a guide to contest my case by mail, and just found out I won. Promptly took that money and invested it in a Passport 9500ix.

One factor has got to be literacy, well, at least in TX. We have signs posted that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right." I figure those left lane lucies think that because they are going faster than the middle and right lane that they can stay in the left lane. What they fail to realize is that the person behind them is actually travelling faster.

But PasPar2 has just described one of my biggest pet peeves -- the nincompoops that, on a perfectly clear highway, will move over to the far left lane upon entering a highway and go S-L-O-W. And they always seem to end up in front of me.

On a completely unrelated note, they silently increased the speed limit on the tollroads I travel to 70mph, yipee! Unfortunately, morning traffic still sucks now that school is back in session.
