Awesome project! Masers are sublime.

(Sorry if this has already been posted, but I tuned in late to this thread.)

Thanks again for the words of encouragement guys. I appreciate it. Here are a couple more pictures. I finished the paint restoration process. I am working on the wheels now. One down and three to go. The transmission is at a shop and I plan on trying to start the car in the next week (without the transmission, since the bellhousing & flywheel/clutch assembly are still attached to the engine). I'm going to squirt some "mystey oil" down the cylinders a couple days prior. I will crank it over without the coils connected for a while, to make sure I have sufficient oil pressure.

Ghostwriter, thanks for posting the cool video.

Nicolaas, I have those moments with mine also. Fortunately, the good far outnumber the challenging.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I attempted to start the car a couple weeks ago. It turned over freely and built up oil pressure. No fuel to the carbs. I'm looking at dropping the tank and going through the fuel system to clean out 30 years of gunk. The pumps did not make any noise and the fuel guage registered empty after adding three gallons.
I picked up the transmission from the shop that I took it to initially. After a week, they admited that they did not have the tools to take it apart. I'm taking it to another shop, where the owner is a friend and they have been working on Maseratis for over 30 years.
Here is a picture of the engine, before I tried to fire it up (I probably should not use the "fire" word, considering the history of my Porsche projects).

Awesome thread! I love to see old cars being brought back to life. This one really has great paint and no rust! I guess your brother's filthy disgusting garage was dry at least!? Gotta love Maserati - that huge engine barely fits into the car!

PS--You need more peanut shells and rats!

Andy, thanks. At least it was dry. The scoop on the hood is not for air. It is necessary to clear the engine. It is pretty amazine technology (DOHC, all aluminum, twin plugs, and those beautiful Webers) for 1959. No more rat turds or Almond shells...I've seen enough to last for a while.

Thanks Marc, Barn996 was kind enough to offer to send me that magazine, I can't wait to see it.

Nicolaas, did I really say that about the good outnumbering the challenging. I just did a driving lesson with my 16 year old...I'm still shaking.

I am about 2yrs away from the 1st driving lesson and don't know how to teach him....certainly not in the Porsche...but I don't think that a 402HP SUV is the best way to go either.....maybe I got to buy one of those $200 cars you see for sale sometimes wondering who the hell is ever going to buy them!! On top of it all he is the worst listener in the world and has ADHD....which doesn't help much either.....your shaking??? I am nearing a heart attack only thinking of it!

Take your son to a gokart track and see how he does. Drive behind him so you know what to expect when he gets behind the wheel of a real car.
