I'm glad it worked out okay.
I'm with you on the reliability. I see no reason to trade my 996 - still looks and runs great, so why waste money on a newer model that drives even further beyond my capabilities.

Congrats on your sale Mark. Can't wait to see your next project, agree with you and Wellardmac about the 996 reliability of our cars, and they are still fun to drive.

Mfletch,
Good luck and stay the course. Some 15 years ago, I "restored" a barn-find Triumph TR-6. One of the happiest days of my life was the first time the engine actually started.
The project took twice as long as I had hoped and cost about twice (OK, three times) as much as I had planned. But it was worth it in terms of personal satisfaction.
Keep the pics a-comin'.

Mark, thanks for sharing, car turned out beautiful and the family time and memories are priceless. Congratulations on the completion and sale, I can't believe it has been 5 years! Would love to see a post back with your next project.

Hey Don, thank you. It is hard to believe that it has been 5 years since I started this adventure. It has been nice seeing that some of the old timers on the 996 forum are still around. It is a pleasant surprise to see that most of us still have the same 996s that we all had 5 years ago. They must not be as undependable as some believe.
During the past 5 years, I have spent a lot of time being active on Ferrari Chat. The Maserati section was an invaluable source of information. I met some great guys there, but I will always be a Porsche enthusiast. Rennlist feels like home.

Yup, they can't be as bad as some might believe. People are generally shocked when I tell them that my car first hit the road in Jan 2000. 14 years old, still running strong and looking like new.
I replaced the battery last week and it reminded me that I last changed it 8 years ago when I saw the sticker on the side. I don't think I've ever had the situation with another car.
