The gentleman painting my vintage Mustang is a pretty good friend (we will refer to him as Jay Jr.). His 70 year old father (Jay Sr.) had just returned home from a stay in the hospital following a moderately serious heart attack. Jr. explains how Sr. had once worked for a gentleman who owned a P-car and that he had always wanted to drive one. I felt obligated to grant a life long wish for a man in his twi-light years.
Jay Sr. is a life-long old school hot rodder. He has built many a Ford small block V8 screamer (8000 rpm 300+ ci iron blocks) with power curves that felt like moon launches. I picked Jay Sr. up and putted around his neighborhood for a while and eventually swapped seats with him. I stupidly suggested he "put her on the highway" (I-675 SE Atlanta). Just after merging into the 70-80'ish flow a very red Corvette with a very loud open exhaust booms by...
Jay Sr. punches it! 90...100...110...120... His clutch work was club-footed at best and his steering inputs were vague. Evening Rush hour traffic was just getting warmed up (in Atlanta it starts around lunch time) and he seemed to be using the tires on the lane markers as a type of automotive braille to determine if he was actually in the lane. The Corvette driver either notice the sloppiness or the look of shear terror on the face of the P-car's passenger (that being my face) because he backed off and moved over to let us by. I mouthed thank you to him as we passed for I was certain Jay Sr. would follow suit. Actually, it wasn't until he decided that he really needed to consume the tablet in his shirt pocket and that it would be difficult to do at triple digit speeds so he backed out of it. A near death experience if ever there was one.
I've polited a race bike to 180+ on a public but deserted road and I know how irresponsible that was. I've done it many times but less and less as time goes by. I've sky dived, shot guns and made love to fast women. No death-bed full of regrets for me... I guess that's what was going through Jay Sr.'s mind, too.
Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I do very much doubt the 203 mph unless the transmission gearing had been changed or the rev limiter moved on that car, as there is simply no way my MY99 will go any faster with its stock 6th gear and rev limiter at 6800 rpm.

OK,
So I was out on a Wyoming Interstate on my own, and I could see about 3 miles ahead, and I planted my right foot. I saw just under 170 MPH on the speedo before I backed off. There was at least a bit more left in the car, but I couldn't take it any more. I sure hope that my rear wing deployed! For sure that was the fastest I've ever gone on land. The previous record was on my 1993 CBR 900RR at a mere 145 MPH. Those were the days!
