Default A thing of beauty... AASCO Lightweight Flywheel

WOOT! UPS came and left not 5 minutes ago...

Great deal at $800 shipped ($750+$50 for 3 day UPS) from Ultrarev.com. Ordered Monday afternoon, in my hands on Wednesday.

Pcar is up on stands waiting on the clutch kit to arrive from Suncoast. Install on Friday and off we go!

This is why I prefer to do any of the maintenance myself that I can. Figure around $600 or so labor for clutch replaced at the dealer which is not much less than the flywheel. Win-win..

Yes, I have heard about the chatter, etc. have driven cars with LWFW's before (last was a '90 300ZX Twin Turbo with a twin plate clutch and Unorthodox LWFW. It was dyno'd at just shy of 425 RWHP and while there was some chatter it was not unbearable by any means). Basically it is a trade off.

I think I'll do likewise when the time comes.

As long as the ECU can keep up with it? Have one on my 964 and love it but the car does stall every once in a while. Will also take stress off of the rear main seal, so might help avoid a leak??

Not sure about that... it does chatter, more vibration.

Can these single mass flywheels be resurfaced?

no need to do anything with the ecu. mine has been fine since day one.

i think you are right about the LWF relieving stress on the RMS. mine has not leaked and i have 99K miles on it.

Hmm, so that's what it looks like. You probably should have purchased the Plenum

The RMS issue is a weight thing, not vibration as I understand it.

You're going with a single-mass LTW flywheel mated with factory clutch kit? Any reason why aside from not wanting your left leg to be larger than the right leg?

The only reason to change to a stiffer pressure plate is if he is adding torque...which a lighter flywheel doesn't do?

The stock clutch hub is rubber. Aftermarket clutch hubs are sprung hubs.

I'm curious to see how the aftermarket single mass LTW flywheel works with the stock clutch (rubber hub) and PP.

The clutch kit is this one: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...y_Code=996main

The box the LWFW came has a label which says:

"CAN BE USED WITH A SPRUNG CLUTCH DISC"

I spoke to AASCO and was told that they had modified the design from the original and that it would work fine with the OEM clutch. I was told this as well by Suncoast. Hope all goes well, will post pics of the OEM clutch with the LWFW as soon as the clutch arrives on Friday. <FINGERS CROSSED all goes well and play nicely together>

EDIT:
Wanted to show the clutch so all can see it is sprung.

Yeah! It is a sprung hub. HMM. I'm curious to see what your impressions are with AASCO and stock clutch.

Any idea what the weight savings is? Actual vs. advertised?
