Weak Sounding Intial Engine Start Up
Anyone ever run into a situation where engine start up is weak sounding from a cold start? Once warmed up, subsequent starts sound fine. Wondering if there's a bad sensor somewhere?
Previously had dealer check similar situation out under warranty and they replaced the Bank 1 Catalyst (996-113-031-06). Not having any check engine light or other noticeable mechanical impact.

I think that part number is for the catalytic converter. I looked at Pelican Parts. I have a weak sounding engine startup at cold also. No CEL or any sort of broken mechanical sounds. I wonder if I need new cats???

Yup. That's the part number for the catalytic converter, but I think the dealership was pre-emptively replacing it rather than having determined that it was defective. Not sure that we need to replace this.

I'm about ready to clean the throttle body as in the refernced post. Sounds just like the problem I am having. One question......do I need to the the "throttle adaptation" for a 03 996? Cant find anything about "e-gas".

Nice, I love that write up. At first I was a little concerned about the car being difficult to work on (have owned BMW in the past). But am surprisingly happy that this car has been a DIY dream.

Out of curiosity, when you said "turn on the ignition", did you mean to start the car, or just turn the ignition to the pre-start phase? I cleaned my throttle body a while back, but never did this procedure.

Glad it's helping some people out, eventhough it's a very simple job.
nycebo, it means turn the key to on, no cranking to start.
I'm sure the car's had a chance to adapt by now if you've done it a while.
But you can always do the adaptation procedure anytime, it's kinda like restarting your home computer, I guess?
