Will a 997GT3 outperform a 996GT3 at the track? I sure hope so, if not PAG has gone backwards. That was not my point. My point to you was your blanket statement that the 997 is better in ALL categories. It isn't. It is a great track car for the street. But if you want the raw feel that we all crave for the track you will need to do quite a bit to capture that in the 997.
When I thought about picking up a 997GT3 last year I asked myself if I thought it was worth 30K at the time to "trade-up". It wasn't. I proablywould have driven it more on the street though. The 996 is a dedicated track ***** for me. I'll take both

) thoroughly explains why you prefer the 997. That's not a bad thing, it is exaclty what PAG is marketing to.

I've owned both 993 and 996. Both great cars.
As an Econ Major many moons ago, I believe the price differential is down to supply and demand though.
If push came to shove though, a 996 GT3 would be my choice from all the various flavors of 993 and 996. Then 996 Turbo. Then the 993 Targa I currently have.

and it is better in all performance categories. I'm all for raw cars, but the 996 GT3 is a bit too raw for my liking and for all that rawness it's still slower than the 997 GT3, bottom line.
I'm a fan of both, but I am a much bigger fan of the 997 GT3. It's the complete package for me. 996 GT3 looks bore me. The 997 GT3 on 19" champion RG5s.... BALLLN!

What does this have to do with the prices of 993 vs. 996's? - Not much, just remotely interesting that it may only be people with Porsche knowledge that prefer the 997 style.

996s are as common as Lexus cars, i see 5-6 of them on the way to work in my Toyota during rush hour... many with women driving, none wave because they dont know that is a 911 tradition, etc. The 993 is great, but its' not just about the 993, it is about any older air cooled Porsche...unique, not everyone has one... appealing in the same way that a mechanical watch is compared to a digital casio... the casio will keep better time, but doesnt look nearly as good and not as engaging...
having said all that, the 996 GT3 is a bargain these days I think, many in the $70s, and the 997 GT3 is just tops in my book... but the bottom line is that i think one would need a GT3 water cooled car to match the involvement of the older models....

Comes down to looks and feel. Yes the 996 is a more modern looking car, but the 993 is a more beautiful car. Only one of then could be shown in an art museum... And I don't think it'll be a 996 with an "spoiler kit"... Hands down, a 993 is art!

The 993 front end is the ugliest Porsche ever made, it sucks! I am tired of hearing how ugly our front ends are. The 993 looks like a damn frog. The 996 front end has one of the most unique looks in any car.
I always wanted a 993 but cant get past the ugly front end, looks like a 968.......hmmm kind of like the 996 has the same front as the Boxster. Hypocrites!!!
