You guys rock! I bought a set of 3.6's off a a guy on this site shipped for $250 last week. They are new. He had a custom exhaust put on his C4S before he took delivery. I am going to try and have this done next week for my 01 C2 Cab.

I am still trying to located a set of mufflers to do this mod on my 99 C4. What year do the 996 mufflers change from the 3.4 to the 3.6 mufflers? When I am finding used ones the people selling them on ebay, etc. don't always know what engine they came off of, but they can tell me what year.
thanks,
Dustin

Dustin the 3.6L engines and mufflers were 2002 - 2004 (2005 for the C4 & C4S).
One way to tell from looking at a pic of the mufflers is that the 3.6L mufflers have the "accordion" pipe coming from the cats, while the 3.4L mufflers have a straight pipe coming from the cat.
The pic below shows a 3.4L muffler on the left and a 3.6L muffler on the right.

I think you'll find that the availability of the take-offs come and go. I've been following this thread since it started...even before I had mine done, and I put ads out on the WTB boards trying to find a set. I couldn't find anyone who had a set they'd be willing to part with. It seems that for a while there will be other Rennlisters who pop up and offer theirs...or they show up on eBay, then there will be a dry spell. You just have to be patient and keep checking the various sites. I finally found mine on eBay for $100....but you also have to be careful because some of the dismantlers out there have caught on that these mufflers are being sought after...and they've jacked up the prices on them. They're out there...just be patient and you'll get a set...just like what just happened here with Alphahunter.

I just dropped my mufflers off at the shop. I am going with 2.25 Stainless. They are only charging me $60 for the mod and $80 to install. Thats $390 for everything! Not bad! Should be ready to go and on by Monday. I will post updates.

MKII Muffler mods
I know I've posted this picture before, but this is what the 3.6L mufflers look like after they've been modded with the 2 1/4 inch stainless steel piping. If you put these mufflers up against a PSE muffler, they'll look exactly the same except for the vacuum operated valve that opens/closes the bypass to increase/decrease the volume of the muffler. I put my car next to Loren's (RennTech) and they are almost exactly the same, except that Loren's was a bit deeper when he fired it up and it idled...other than that, at 3500-4500 they roar about the same...and when you really get on it....there's no distinction. Loren is running PSE wide open without the dash mounted switch.
I hope these pictures will show enough detail for you.

Anyone in SoCal need a pair of 3.6L cans from a car w/ only 11k miles? Let me know... they're sitting in my garage and I think it's time for spring cleaning.
PM me if interested. WILL NOT SHIP, pickup only.

Okay, so this is what I am worried about. I was under the impresion that it sounds the same all around but I could imagine that at idle and start up it doesn't sound the same. Am I correct? And If I am correct then I heard from a friend that carnewal has these pre-modded exhausts that they take all the guts (the chambers) out of and then put the bypass pipe on. Only issue is I haven't heard of anyone talking about it. Any inputs?
I am trying to find the best match to the PSE with the valve open, it is a little more for the carnewal one and I was told that it is better. SO...What do you guys think?
