We do not go by Porsche's service recommendations. Where a severe service interval is not specified, we typically will cut the service interval in half, time or mileage, whichever comes first.

Following Porsche's service recommendations is exactly why we have some of the issues that we have today

Yep, and nowhere in the service/maintenence does the factory suggest a water pump interval.

Rumor is that if you read every 911th letter of the service manual it spells "buy new 911"

Or for the AOS.

Ah, and yes, Porsche never even had a part number for the IMS bearing, suggesting it was a "lifetime" part, kind of like those "lifetime fluids" that we never have to change :-)

The modern Porsche was designed for the leasing market. Little to no maintenance during the lease or even during the warranty period. When the warranty is up, you're supposed to trade it in on a new one, right? :-)

Just don't have one :-)

Isn't it a non-serviceable component in the fuel pump nowadays?

Charles, if you don’t mind. If you were in my situation with a 2012 MA121C engine(320HP) with 79K and 12 months worth of CPO warranty remaining. Would you be inclined to have the bottoms of the bores inspected to rule out scoring, even though there are no telltale signs in current operation. I have only 1 UOA which showed low viscosity for low miles M1 0w-40. Thank you in advance for your input..

I certainly would. I recommend to everyone with CPO cars to have an independent go through the car as if you were having a PPI done so that you can have Porsche fix anything that might be under warranty.

Depending on how many miles you drive, I'd cut your oil change interval down maybe even to 3 months (as long as you have at least 1000 miles on the oil) and have it resampled to see if the aluminum, iron, and silicon levels are trending the same.

Oh yes they have one !! it is made into the fuel sending unit on the 02+ cars........It is only "maintenance free" if you "don't know/think/worry about it" ....

You get a free fuel pump with purchase of the fuel filter!

Perfect, thank you for the reply. I’m probably right at 3 months and 1000 miles and maybe I’ll do another change and sample( currently on Fuchs 0w-40) which I don’t imagine is any better than the M1. At that time I can have them drop the pan/plate and scope from the bottom and refill with Driven oil..

FYI the 9A1 can’t be scoped from the sump, have to use the spark plug holes. I would definitely do the oil analysis regardless because it’s certain and we have seen a lot of dealer and indy mechanics miss bore scoring or diagnose bore scoring when it wasn’t there. Oil analysis is a route you almost can’t make a mistake with. Good luck!

I had the pleasure of replacing this as the top plastic piece developed a tiny crack that caused an air leak which would throw an annoying evap code. Took me like 3 years to track it down hah
