Default Thanks All

I decided to move on from the 996 world. As such, I picked up today this 99 Box Base today. The idea was to get something a little more wallet friendly that I could enjoy with the wife. I see specifically picked the 99 because of the dual row imsb and borescoring. It’s a tip which I guess has even lower potential of IMSB, maybe I’m wrong.
Regarding the car, I wanted Guards Red and a tip. I like to eat, drink and drive so it just made sense. My wife now agreeing to drive was also a factor.
Anyhow, here’s the new wheels.

Thanks all for all your help. I’ve learned a bunch.

I started my Pcar journey with a 986. My wife taught herself to drive a six-speed so I lost it to her and got my own 996. The 986 Box is a great little car. Congrats on your find.

I specifically wanted Seal Gray for the Boxster and we added the "Bordeaux red" top last summer.

The girls.

I’m glad to see you got another Pcar at least. I feel Boxsters are underrated but a cool car nonetheless.

Love my 02 Boxster S the mid engine platform is a great performer . Add to that two trunks makes for a very useful car . Mine shares the garage with my 99 C4 996 . They don't mind sleeping together 😋

Great car, congratulations! Now GTFO.

Kidding! I've been tempted by the ridiculously low prices on early Boxsters. May have to get one just to see what they're all about.

.
Congratulations on the new toy, especially that it is also enjoyed by the spouse.

By the way, both points above about the dual row and the tipt are wrong, Speaking from personal experience, not a rumor mill on the internet.

At least it’s still a Porsche! The Boxster is a great little car in its own rite! Enjoy!!!

I heartily support this. We bought a last-year (2004) 986.2 S in 2018. It was my “starter Porsche” and five Porsches later, we still have it. I daily drove it in the Colorado foothills year round, swapping to snow tires and having a blast in the snow. Only on the heaviest of snow days I would have to leave her in the garage. It puts a smile on my face every time I’m behind the wheel. Now she only sees fair weather but around here, there are plenty of days year round.

Certainly not refined by modern Porsche standards, but the .2 cars are great fun, plenty refined for my savage palate, and I’ve found mine to be very reliable with an appropriate and reasonable level of maintenance and DIY repair. (In fairness, the engine is a bitch to work on.)

Ours was pretty well-optioned, with the heated seats an essential in the mountains. The 2003-2004 also has a glass rear window, a significant improvement over the earlier plastic windows. 986s were produced in such numbers that they’ll likely never appreciate significantly but a well sorted manual S “dot-2” generation should hold its value. I suspect these are at or near the bottom of their depreciation curve.

And if you stick a 3.6 FSI R51 engine in it like I did well let's just say the fun meter is pegged at 10 all the time 😋

I had a 00 S before the 996 with manual. Great car but when I drove my friends base, I was like wow, this is something else. I think it was the 5 speed over the 6 honestly.
For me, The box made perfect sense. A 1/4 the cost and 75% the performance. That’s debatable. I drove to work, jammed in a parking space and went to work without a worry. It was refreshing.
Not to brag but it has a cassette player. 😀
