Well that's the exact reason I got it done on mine
I would use the built-in one, if only the maps (which Porsche SELLS for quite a lot of money for what they are) wouldn't be so outdated.

Mine didn't have PCM originally but after I installed PCCM+ myself, I had my Porsche Centre enable the turn by turn in the dash with PIWIS/ As others have said, it take a few minutes and they didn't charge me for it.
FYI: I made my CarPlay wireless with the Ottocast dongle and hid all of it behind the centre console; works flawlessly. All you see is the charge cable coming out inside the storage cubby. No ugly connector box attached with velcro. Your dealer should have done better; it's a simple install especially on a 2003 and newer car...took me less than 5 hours and I was taking my time!

PCCM+ owners - can you comment on phone charging? Does connecting via USB for CarPlay also adequately charge your phone?
I find WAZE is a massive battery hog. Does the phone charge while running Waze?
thanks!

I always end up with a full iPhone after connecting to PCCM for an hour or so, so my experience is that it charges quite quickly.

Well if your phone is at 95% battery when connecting, then maybe. I don't have much experience with my 15, but my previous 14 Pro could charge as little as 7-10% during 2h drive.
Which I don't mind, not discharging while in CarPlay is enough for me as I don't go on a trip with empty phone battery, but still - it's not very efficient with modern battery capacities.

When I get into my car from home, my phone (iphone 13 mini) is usually at 100% already. The PCCm keeps my phone topped up. The few times I've used it with the battery at 80%, it's charged the phone fully within an hour (not checking while driving though)

Hey!
I have recently acquired this adapter (996.642.341.00) and today I decided to use it with my head unit. I tried to follow the instructions provided by @jhomer but I wasn't successful, i.e. I blew two fuses in the process 😂.
My head unit has the following cables (from left to right): blue/green/yellow (as a single cable), brown and black (based on testing this is the cable that provides power).
Based on the instructions:
I was able to

I was met with some difficulties. My black 8 pin female connector layout doesn't exactly match the adapter male black connector, which required some "force" to plug in. After doing this I turned on the car and lost one fuse.
I looked into the connectors again and noticed that the brown one matched the connection perfectly but once again I lost another fuse. At this point I decided to stop, plug everything as it was before and get another fuse.
Hopefully I am just missing a simple detail and this can be addressed.
Thank you!
P.S. I attached some photos of my installation.
P.S.S. Something that I also noticed is that on the photo provided by @jhomer, we have two instances of blue/green/yellow cables.

Here ya go, new female yellow connector goes into the head unit, you plug the existing female yellow connector from the vehicle side into the new red connector, and plug the vehicle side black 8 pin female connector into the new male black connector.
