Default Best Stock Wheels for the 996

Somebody on this forum should purchase these wheels! They are the lightest of all the 18" rims Porsche ever produced and still look amazing. We hear so much about unsprung weight.

I would buy them but I have bigger issues in front of me.

As a great reference to avoid the search:

If I'm not mistaken, sets like these have been selling on BAT for 6Kish recently.

Yeah, I don't get it either...

If I had a set of those wheels sitting in my garage, I would sell them as fast as I could to cash in on the silly values...

Too busy looking for my tastes. Thinking about cleaning them makes me break out in a rash.

Those aren't bad. My problem is that when I see them I think, "who put STi wheels on a Porsche?" because I owned an STi in the past.

For me, simple = good when it comes to wheels. Which is why I like my Carreras.

Ditto. Even without a pretty backdrop, the Carreras look great. Easy to clean, light and strong as he'll, not to mention they show off a big brake kit better than the others.

MY02 wheels FTW. According to that link with weights, the rears are actually a tad lighter than the 408 God's gift to the Porsche world wheels I much prefer the aesthetics of the MY02 wheels. Someone can correct me, but I thought those Turbo twists were made when Porsche was in the money saving mode so they all have the spokes angled in the same direction so they look different on right and left.

You are right about the weight, but a key ingredient is the strength of the Carreras. They are incrediably strong for their light weight. Not to mention they visually work beautifully beyond the 996. Many 944 and 928 owners use them and they look awesome. They may be the only porsche wheel that is able to transcend models and eras.

They definitely are one of the best looking most universal Porsche wheels. They look fantastic on 993s too. I picked up a cheap set a couple months back for my second set of rims and can't wait to see how they look on my 99 after I get them cleaned up and powder coated.

They also don't cost a fortune like 408s. I also am not a big twist fan.

What's kinda funny to watch with fascination is the demand for porsche wheels. I remember when nobody wanted the Turbo Twists and everyone wanted the Carreras back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Now it's the reverse.

The 996 crowd is fickle isn't it.

As a side note, I can't wait until the Carreras become the favorites again so I can sell one of my two sets and buy a set of APEX wheels. It's only a matter of time.
