Default FINALLY Dropping The Engine

After months and months of repairing the car's systems to pass inspection and then months and months later to get my registration and plates I can finally drop the engine on my 102K mile 996.2 C2 Cab. In preparation I've made a few tool purchases to ease my extraction. Here's what I got:
  • HF Special - Motorcycle Lift along with the transmission lift I already own.
  • Ebay Special - Camshaft Alignment Tool Kit
Anything else I should consider?

Plan:
  • Rebuild top end with this: FCP Euro Kit
  • Clutch Kit
  • Inspect/Replace IMS Bearing and install DOF mod (leaning towards TuneRS) - Anyone have the bearing tool they'd be willing to lend me?
  • Inspect/Replace piston rings
  • AOS replacement - Considering Ultimate AOS but it's a bit $$$
  • 997 Oil return tubes in sump
  • Inspect/Replace Timing setup (only what's necessary) - Do the chains stretch enough to justify replacement?
  • Motor mount replacement
  • Fuel injector (Clean and refresh only - Bosch injectors are back ordered indefinitely)
  • Inspect/Replace spark plug tubes
  • Replace water pump and thermostat
  • Replace Accessory belt
  • Inspect/Replace pulleys/tensioner

Any other recommendations/advice? Of course all of this will be documented and published on YouTube.

Replace all the vacuum lines and the oil fill tube. The oil fill tube may look okay, but they get extremely brittle and can develop small cracks or come apart just as you get the engine back in the car. Oh and +1 on the UAOS while the engine is out.

Yes there’s a good possibility. I don’t specifically have any parts for the crankcase (aside from RMS and IMS) purchased just yet.

You might consider changing the coolant reservoir tank, so much easier with the engine out and a major cause of cracked heads/intermix.

I’m not sure, from what I’ve seen of your car thus far, that splitting the case is warranted. Sure adds a ****load of expense, time, and trouble.

I would bet if the cylinders are nice, the rings are good

I have some borescope footage that indicates oil is either getting past the rings or the AOS is going.

Totally agree that cracking open too much will lead me to suffer from While I’m In There Syndrome again. 😂

I send fuel injectors to WitchHunter. They will rebuild them and check them. At least you can make sure they don't leak

Yogi,

FWIW, just got an email from LN Engineering. They are running a sale.

DO NOT just refresh the top end - not with an engine that old. The refresh will put more strain on the bottom end.

If the cylinders are no longer round ( which is my guess ) putting new rings in would most likely be a waist of time and money.
