ARP Carrier Through Bolt Kit
The ARP Carrier Through Bolt Kit (204-5001) is currently on backorder from ARP until January. I've checked LN Engineering, Summit Racing, Jegs, Autoplicity, and FCP Euro. Does anyone know of anyone that may have a set in stock? I don't want to wait until January or later to start putting my engine back together, and I don't want to use stock bolts at this time since I upgraded everything else during this build.

(1) Product List – Performance Improvements
Although might be sitting in the same container for all these vendors. This website says to contact with ETA.....

If you watch the Jake Raby/Flat Six assembly DVD’s you will see that he uses the genuine Porsche thru bolts and says that unless you are building for an application that would require aftermarket bolts these are fine. When you think about these bolts they are not a high stress area. So I guess you should ask yourself if you really need the ARP bolts for your build and if it is worth waiting until January (or possibly longer).

I have found a set in England, but with shipping and currency exchange, I will be paying double ($253 vs $125). In the grand scheme of things, this is 1% of the build.
It's a tough decision since I have upgraded everything in the bottom end (K1 Rods with ARP Bolts, Billet IMS Paddle, Pinned IMS Shaft, Chromoly Oil Pump Drive, and IMS Solution) but these bolts would be the factory TTY bolts.

I bit the bullet and paid $245 for the bolts. I found a coupon. I feel that the Porsche bolts would have worked, but it would have been in the back of my mind forever that I didn't get to install the ARP bolts. Also, in a worst-case scenario and I ever need to rebuild, I won't need to buy these bolts again. I guess all this was worth $120 in my mind.

What are the actual differences?
WhIle ARP generally are tougher than average steel, don't put it past Porsche to have used pretty good bolts on the Carrier.
Its weird where they did and didn't try and save money on the 996..

The Porsche carrier bolts seem to hold up fine and are not a real weak point. The ARP is just overkill and most likely not needed. The big difference is they are reusable, not that I expect to ever have to be in this engine again. If I didn't find them, I probably would have ordered the factory bolts and just used them. I find it strange that Porsche would use torque to yield bolts on the carrier but not on the heads. It's almost the reverse of what you would expect.
