LOL. I wish I was creative enough to have thought that up as a ruse .

My statement that the super light aluminum lug nuts might have come on some 1999's was from memory of an old post. I just searched and found the thread from 3 years ago. It looks like I was right that at least one 1999 had studs and the lightweight aluminum nuts (that, or @Splitting Atoms 1999 had aftermarket studs, but seems unlikely, particularly with aluminum nuts).

Here are the relevant quotes cut and pasted from this thread => https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-vs-mk2-3.html

Just bought this with almost no options. Can't remember seeing any build that's bare bones as this. 99" Zenith Blue with Savannah Beige. It's so beautiful.

First Porsche for me. Hope it's a nice one.

Very nice, indeed!
I was curious about the 2 options and looked them up.
424 is the A/C and 688 is CR-210 radio.

The 996 didn't come much lighter than this one 😀

Those early builds with few options always seem to have the best colors. VIN suggests and early build - what's the build date?

They were probably display or journalists evaluated cars

Wow, that is the first option list I have seen with less options than mine:

7/98 build date C2 in Arena Red:

My car has a 2/98 build date. I'm not sure what to make of the few options on the car. No frills for sure, but would it hurt resale value because of the lack of options? I bought it because of the color combination, not really knowing until afterwards that it had literally no options from the factory.

Early build 1999’s in rare colors don’t need any options at all. Less the better I say

BEAUTIFUL!

I just got one with the same options a few weeks ago. 5/98 build date. I can’t stop smiling when I’m in it. It’s a keeper, assuming life doesn’t throw me too many curve ***** in the next few years.

My early build 99 is the uber rare “Vesuvio” purple, and was an internal Porsche “Executive” order. No options at all but the #408 wheels and a bunch of carbon fiber/aluminum goodness. Except for the sunroof the car is literally exactly how I would have ordered it from scratch myself.
