I don't currently track my 996 but I usually do a session in my friend's 4.0L every time he brings it out. My track car is the yellow M3. On the straights, the two cars are pretty evenly matched so they're pretty fun to run together.

I won't be out with you guys on 5/22 at Palmer - too much stuff going on!
I did make it out to Lime Rock Park on 5/14, fantastic day.
Four sessions with this organization. The first session was really bad. Lime Rock is a short track and a long train of cars can form very quickly. The last session was fantastic, because about 1/2 the drivers had left! I am still not completely comfortable with this car and I have to keep reminding myself to order the power a little before I really need it. That just adds to the fun. I kept getting traction control intervention because of wheelspin coming out of the uphill turn. I doubt the four wheel drive is working any more on this car, it seems to be rear wheel drive only.
The overall track record here is 44.1 seconds in an LMP class car. I can't even comprehend that.

Yes I will have the TT on the 26th. I may even have time to install the Sparco QRT seat I bought, blatantly copying you.
Did you see the schedule? There is a track walk that I would like to do, and I'm planning to be there in time for that.

Too bad won't see you at Palmer Aaron... Double too bad my exhaust is 100x too loud for LR....
Lap looked like a lot of fun.
We'll try to represent The Gang well in your absence this weekend.

Have a great time at Palmer! I'll be doing carpentry at my Dad's house that day.
You'll make it out to LRP some day! It's worth the effort.
There was a 986 at Lime Rock, straight piped, with a huge 2-inlet 2-outlet muffler installed outside of the rear bumper. He said it was from a Chevy Trailblazer (I think?). I forgot to take a picture of it. It looked ridiculous, though it seemed to do the trick. I have seen this 986 at Thompson and it is loud without the extra muffler.
If we had a track photographer I'll try to find the pictures of it.
That's one advantage of the massively heavy Turbo exhaust - it's very quiet.

Salute to all the 996 owners who get their cars on the track. It's actually a very reliable, capable platform for a track car, but don't tell anybody, we don't want to ruin the car's reputation.
Here's a video I put together when I did the PCA Sebring club race a few years ago.
