4.0L puts out 311hp? Is that right? Dyno doesn't say crank or wheel. I sure hope it's the latter.

$37k + fees for the FSI 4.0 track car

 

Unless the previous owner blew the break-in procedures on the FSI engine and the engine was treated poorly over its 11k miles, the buyer got a very good deal that would cost over $50k for engine rebuild and various upgraded parts on the car, plus the cost of the donor. All in its a $75k+ car to replicate for under $40k. Congrats.

Don't understand why people get caught up with FOMO when the market is hot and throw money at crappy cars at nosebleed prices that will cost them a boatload of money to refresh; but yet, when the market is soft, they are reluctant to buy quality at undervalued prices.

FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out

 

In my opinion the 996 actually did very well.

Original price of that car was $74k, 75k miles, sold for $37k. 50% of original purchase price. The Classic.com CMB for all 996.2 Carrera is $30k, so pulling 25% above that is really good. I think without the FSI engine that car is sub $25k.

The 997.2 had an original price of $107k, only 36k miles, and sold for $70k. 65% of original purchase price. The Classic.com CMB for all 997.2 Carrera 4S is $74k. Slight underperformance but good news for me cause I might fancy one of those.

 

This is a probably a good metric if comparing sales values across other cars in the same way. But it should be noted there’s no inflation adjustment taken into consideration, which might be helpful for a more direct value assessment. 74k in 2002 equates to roughly 122k today w/ inflation, which means the recent sale was 30% of original purchase price in real dollar terms. Still pretty good!

As someone who details cars it honestly doesn't surprise me. Some people legit think that is just happens with age and you cant fix it or they just don't care.

 

That F6I went disappointingly low.
But it was an older build and wasn’t marketed very well.
Not that I plan to sell mine EVER, but when it does go to the next owner(my kids most likely) it will have over 375 spare parts to help keep it on the road for years to come.
...as long as fuel is still being sold.
If my kids don’t want it they have a note recommending they put it on BaT, if it still exists.
