I'm starting to feel a little better after seeing what some have paid. My 996 with Aero that was added after the fact but it only had 52k mi and some weird options... got mine for 29k from a member here.

35k is big money for a C2 in a "dull" color and no full leather. Makes me feel good about what I paid a year ago.

The insanity continues:

Over $51k after buyer's premium! (I'm really liking white 911s the more i see them)

I'm thinking that folks have been sitting on these cars waiting for the "moment", and the moment seems to be here.

Even though I haven't been in mine for long I feel like if it would bring a premium I would sell it. Unfortunately the market for cabs just isn't as strong, I think I could get a little more than I bought it for but not enough to warrant letting it go.

I have a 997.2 4s coupe with a new 4.0 F6I Stage II engine and i just saw it’s twin sell, though a cab with stock engine, for only a few grand less then my purchase price. As for my 996 4s that I admittedly “overpaid” for 2 years ago, the market now appears to be rewarding me for my aggression.

Nice to know values have taken an upward move but neither of mine were purchased with the intention of ever parting ways.

With most or maybe all other cars convertibles are much more valuable, that should happen with ours someday.

Maybe we will never sell our 996 because I don't see anything that has the features we love: rear engine that can hold 2 adults and 1 child along with plenty of storage. It's fun, exclusive, gorgeous, and practical nothing else like it.

Off topic - I thought the 997.2 DFI engines were pretty bulletproof - why the need for the FSI rebuild? Just curious.

for once in my life I think I've got luck on my side. Apparently I got my C4S for an absolute steal.

9a1 engine suffered bore scoring at 80k miles (they aren't bulletproof) and previous owner commissioned the 4.0 Stage II rebuild. A subsequent PDK failure (they certainly aren't bulletproof either) with costly replacement and previous owner wanted/needed out. I stepped up and bought it. Both the bore scoring and PDK failure were discussed on RL 997 forum extensively in 2019 and early 2020 if you have a few hours to burn, lol. Jake also has a Rennvision video posted of the engine's bore scoring diagnosis if you are interested.

Do the Porsche 997.2 and 991/992 direct injection engines have issues with the carbon building up on the valves like other DI engines due to the lack of gas to clean them off?

/\/\ That's a good question. With this not being a new problem and many other makes suffering from this, like Audi and BMW, why haven't more brands adapted a direct and port injection as a solution? My 2014 Lexus GS has this set up and has been bulletproof, especially in this regard. I know having 12 injectors sounds scary but it's been proven to work and be reliable. I think some Ford engines are implementing this too.

I keep coming back to this thread and chuckle to myself. Some blow hard at either Motortrend or Car and Driver wrote an article about how the 996 would never be a collectors/desirable car. Think it was about 4 years ago if I remember correctly.

There are VERY few car journalists that actually know what they are talking about. Most just regurgitate the same thing and don't bring anything to the table. With that, I like what Hagerty has been doing with their investment in YouTube and hiring Jason Camisa. One person I enjoy listening to who actually knows his stuff.
