whoda thought an auction on Pcarmarket would end RNM a week after the same car failed to sell on BaT
There is one seemingly big problem with this particular car. Notice in the video how the driver shifts into first gear while the car is coasting towards the intersection. I was told years ago by a veteran Porsche mechanic from Germany that one should never shift these cars into first gear while moving. So knowing that this guy was been doing it to this car would be a deal breaker for me.
Anyone more knowledgeable than I who wants to set me straight, by all means please do.

There is also damage to the front bumper and the seller has been less than communicative with potential buyers. Both the BaT and Pcarmarket comment sections are tough to read.

The G50 and 915 liked to eat first great synchros over time if you didn’t double clutch or rev match. No matter the car, even our old Scion Xb, I don’t shift down to first. Too risky and bad technique. So maybe the dude is just a crappy driver, and hasn’t damaged synchros. These G96 transmissions are pretty stout.
I don’t know about the g96, but I never downshift into 1st. In fact when starting off, I go to 2nd then to 1st. Not for the Porsche in particular, just a 45 year habit with a variety of manual boxes that always went into low easer than with just a push forward.
What is odd is that when the BaT bidding was winding down around 40k, the seller said "we are not close on reserve" and "you can use the red one for reference, sold for $51[k]"
Now he is offering it for $44k. Seems like by the end of the week he'll be regretting not letting it go for 40k.

that’s a lost sale that he is never going to get back. So that 40 with the 5 percent fee was $42. I know where there are cars that have been sitting for 6 months. I got a call from an Arizona dealer Tuesday telling me that I have till Friday, they lowered the price $5k, that car has been there since April. still too high IMO.

Not sure but I've had 996's in the garage since 2004, before that a air cooled targa and a turbo. If slowly coasting up to a light I sometimes will drop it Into 1st instead of using the brakes, prob never over 2-3k rev and have never encountered an issue in 30 yrs. I've also used 2nd as a starting gear but not a big fan of it as I don't think the possible lugging is great for the engine .
