I just tell people the truth.... "I wanted a new Scion FRS but I couldn't afford it so I bought this used Porsche." (2001 C4)
Once they realize I am telling the truth the envy pretty much vanishes.

The first car I owned was a 2009 volkswagen rabbit, cost me about 16 brand new. It was all I could afford at 18 after having worked only a year to save some down payment. Went to plenty of car meets and shows and the guys with the turbos and faster cars would always give me **** for it...after paying it off and saving patiently I figured now at 24 years old I would just skip a level or 5 and bought myself a 99 911...little do they know it cost me less overall than the rabbit so I generally do not care for for what people think, I embrace the boost in self esteem for following the dream (never brag though)

Like everyone else I worked my butt off and was able to buy the car of my dreams. I realized that the perception would rub most people the wrong way so I didn't advertise that I had bought it. I didn't upload on my Facebook page and I deff dont drive it to church. People are a funny bunch and tend to place emphasis on what others have done that they haven't and try to justify that to themselves.

"Porsche " envy ?
I hide in a separate parking area away from everybody and half the office knows I walk to work so they didn't make a big deal. I work with high-earning producers so there are a few new 997s and high-end MBZs that really shine.

The only envy I have is from Porsche itself....I purchased a new 2015 Cayenne S....and the manufacturer is so envious that unlike other manufacturer, has not even bothered after 3 months to even send a letter acknowledging the purchase.
Needless to say...really enjoying driving the cayenne.
