Default P0116 / no engine temp reading

I got back my car from the indy who installed the IMS Solution. I am getting a CEL for running lean on both banks. That should be an easy fix for a vacuum leak.

I am troubled by 2 other issues though and maybe someone can chime in.

Getting P0116, which in my case appears to be because the temp gauge is not functioning. It was working, then it was intermittent. Now it doesn't move at all. It is probably a loose connection or a bad sensor. But would that explain why I get no heat inside the car? I put the AC / Heater on high and I get no hot air.

Second odd problem was that the rear trunk would not pop open. Had to use the pull wire. It has since started working .. automagically.

Do the P0116 and trunk release sound connected?

Did the indy drop the engine? And did he properly refill the coolant? Sounds like you have an air pocket in the system, or could be he forgot to reconnect the temperature sensor. or both.
The two are entirely unrelated.

He did have to drop the engine. He filled the coolant lines using a vacuum.

He also mentioned a pocket but I thought it was odd how it worked, but flipping rapidly from 180 to 0. Now it is low all the time.

I am bringing it in to him tomorrow for the P0171 / 174 problem. I assume he can see the temp sensor pretty easily with the air box removed?

I asked about them being related in the sense that they maybe share a ground contact point .. or something like that.

If there is no heat than more than likely there is no coolant in the heater core. This is a bigger and more serious problem than a non functioning temperate gauge. Call the shop and have them tow the car back.

Really weird...

I know he vacuum filled the coolant system. And the expansion tank is at the correct level (It was also replaced when the engine was out).

But with no heat and the fluctuations in temp gauge, sounds like a very big air pocket.

I thought it was funny that he said 2 gallons of uncut coolant was enough for the car. I thought it took 6 gallons (@ 50/50).

Indy is convinced it was / is an air pocket. Temps are now ranging from 170 - 205 when they should be 200 - 205 all the time.

Going to try and keep bleeding the system. If it isn't OK in a few days, he will completely drain the system and re-add coolant (no charge of course).

Fingers crossed.

But either way, I finally get to drive my car! Even though it's 45 degrees in NJ and raining...
