The "E" is pronounced like a soft "A" in Germany, at least by the Germans I know over there. Definitely not pronounced "porsh".

There is no silent e in German. FWIW, a quick-start guide that came with my 718 has a small section labeled "hints". It has only two entries, described as Porsche culture. The ignition is always on the left and the name is pronounced "Porsh-uh, (two syllables)". End of discussion.

It's a family name... let's respect that. It's also a good lesson to know their family history. Many are surprised they weren't from Germany.
