I completely agree with “who cares, say it however you want”, but there is a correct and incorrect way to pronounce it. Porsche produced the video above, and the manual referenced above. That is how they pronounce the name of their company. Any other pronunciation is incorrect, regardless of opinions to the contrary. That being said, who cares? Call it whatever you want, it’s just a car.

Obviously its just a car, I'm asking because it is said both ways and I was wondering the correct way. If I heard people call Chevy either Cheveee or Chevay I would ask the same.

I like going to the local PCA club and calling my cars "Porsch" vs. Porsch-A just to mess with them. Some are okay, but most are rich guys that don't work on their cars. I feel in US English, we can call it "Porsch".

It's my way of checking the wanna-be's, if they say PORSCH, then, oh well...

I work for Porsche (they are our customer)

They freak out when you say Porsha... Actually it sounds almost like it is written "Porsshe"

My daughters girlfriends name is Portia and some cal her Poor T A ! So should she not correct people? Its pronounced the same as the car company she tells them and then they Porsch? She just rolls her eyes...
My GF name is Sophie but most people try to call her Sofia because that is what they seem to know should she not correct them either?

If you understand what car someone is talking about when it's pronounced either way, then it's not worth worrying about.

I always said "Porshhh" but when I got older and found out how Germans say it, I try to remember to say it "Porsha".

i say it “Porsche”. Just as all the Germans do. Ferdi was ethnic German and would have pronounced it just the same, despite being born in the Austin-Hungarian empire. He was German (by ethnicity and language).

Ferdinand was more Czechoslovakian than German really. Their family last name got germanized from prochazka to Porsche when they immigrated.
Hard to find sources on this.

I just spent a few minutes searching and found evidence that the name “Porsche” was used by Ferdinand and at least his father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Start here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_family

the last link in the Referenced section points to here: https://www.gerritspeek.nl/porsche/g...01/pg.htm#BM17

On that page you can find the baptismal records of his great grandfather Antonius, born to Wenceslaus Porsche in 1778. https://www.gerritspeek.nl/porsche/g...anton1778.html

It’s Porsche. 😀
