Our “NEW” 996
After owning a few Boxsters "we" decided that "we" needed to get back into a 911...
So, the 09 Boxster went to AK, bought sight unseen by a gentlemen who took my word about it's condition, he was pleased with it when it arrived by transporter.
The search for a 996 starts, so many at used car dealerships that look just OK, but just not good enough…(fussy anyone?)
Finally a "new" listing on Autotrader, that is about 1/2 an hour away in a rather up scale area....
Pictures look like just what I want a six speed Triple Black Cab, 37,000 miles...priced right.
(My first 911 was a 1980 Triple Black Targa in 1982)
We go to look, it's owned by an older gentleman who bought it 5 years ago and drove it 1500 miles!....something to think about with the IMS failures being prevalent in just that kind of scenario.
The car is MAGNIFICENT, 2 owner, he is the third, each a long time owner...good so far…
The car drives like a new car, feels very tight, no oil stains where it is kept.
Make an offer...(start lower) and surprise, we are the first lookers and he wants it gone...offer accepted....(Holy smokies)
So I figure an IMS replacement about $2500, clutch rebuild top "pistons" etc...another $1500........OK it'll make the car perfect.
Next day we pay for the car and borrow his tag to drive it home...we'll mail the tag back.
Today we receive a letter and find...R/O's for LN replacement IMS, new Clutch, rebuilt top pistons and much more...total $5,000 worth ....
Oh and it looks like the tires are pretty new also...(need to check the dates)
Some days are good...some days are FANTASTIC
Daniel Long time PCA and BMWCCA ...
ps, now the "slope begins"...need to get rid of the "pumpkins".. need colored wheel crests, and "someone" copped the windscreen....
Gundo?..... Fister?

Somedays the bear gets you and somedays you get the bear.
I have an older gentleman neighbor who fits that description. His first Porsche, no expenses spared, drove it 500 miles in a year.

Sometimes u just get lucky. I got my car for $5500 shipped. Was a roller but i got it running for $150. Po also left all the race suspention parts and cage installed. I was pleasantly surprised when it was delivered. Sounds like u r ahead of the game.

Hello and very good purchase. I’m a fan of the aero rockers and nothing else. Drive it for a while and come up with your own MIYO (make it your own) plan. Doesn’t seem you need to do much else. Probably a good time to drive to Ft Meyers and back for no reason other than a “mpg” check. Maybe a good radar detector??? Do you have a Durametric?
