this exact same thing happened to my turbo back in May. I just got it back a few weeks ago. grand total was 14k on the nose. I would imagine that an insurance co would total a n/a 996.

Yes, it'll be a total loss chassis. Don't forget to tell the adjuster about the cost of the options, and upgrades you have on the car. You are supposed to be made WHOLE, including diminished later value. However, the diminished value might come back to bite you if you do buy it back from the ins to repair.
that coupe isn't the right chassis for repair a conv. Find a 1999-2000 conv chassis. It's not that hard of a job to fix. Before going too far, have the chassis measured for all the right points to insure it's not tweaked. If the chassis mics out right, go ahead and fix it. A good body man can make it look like new.
My damage is far worse than yours was. The inspector hasn't seen it yet but I'm reasonably certain it will be totaled.
mine got front and back 1/4 panels, door, both wheels and tires and the mirror cover. I believe they will for sure total yours out. Just means now you can save up for a turbo!

All good points. Thanks. The car was hit three times while parked. The owner of the body shop not only knows me by first name but also always tells me to let her know if I decide to sell my car. She loves it. That could be an option if the buy-back price is right. I'm sure it would be cost effective for her to make it like new again. I"m not worried about the chassis as there was no real impact. Most of the damage was caused by the truck's wheel bolts.
Note that the left rear wheel was hit. Best to make sure the susp isn't bungled, but of course, no one can tell how hard the hit was and how long. Hope it gets put back on the road. No need to hide the salvage reason on this car, saves a lot of speculation when it's resold later.
I bought a salvage 928 which was hit on the right rear, next to the fuel filler. That's a steel panel, so we knocked it out, smoothed it over, put in a new filler door, and tank neck and it was good as new. But - carried the salvage title. I documented the damage, the repairs, and cost with pics, and the next guy had no problem paying a good price for it. Flood cars, and tweaked chassis are the ones that scare people. (with good reason)
It wasn't really a hit, the truck just grazed the side and chewed it up. The dent in the door is from some appendage on the side of the truck.
I'm still waiting for an inspection. I may just drive it to a local place instead of waiting for the guy to come to my house. The left rear rim is chewed up but if I take it slow there shouldn't be any problem.
