Crazy that it costs about $130 to do it yourself though, $45 for oil filter and new drain plug gasket from Porsche dealer, and 10 qrts of Mobile one 0-w40 @$42/5qrt container.
Damn! I payed $29.00 from NAPA for the same oil.

AHHH live and learn. Honestly I don't mind what I paid because I ended up with peace of mind that the oil was clean. I will be more frugal next time around.

I have the oil filters in Mahle for under $11.00, they don't come in a pretty Porsche box though.

I do that for all my vehicles.

When I sell a vehicle I usually have some spare parts for it too, mainly maintenance items.
great idea. Another good idea when you buy a bunch of filters is to check you still have some in stock before you drain the oil LOL.

ask me how I know.....Had blocked my other car so called my father in law to pick up filters.

I drove my 996 for the third time since purchase 3 weeks ago.

Drive 1: Drive home from dealer.
Drive 2: Drive back to dealer tomprogram second key.

Todays Drive was 40 miles to drop off the 996 for

1. Waterpump
2. AOS
3. RMS
4. Likely clutch
5. IMS Solution

hope this makes my 72 000 km 996 bullet proof!

Any more details on the car? What did you pay for it knowing it needed all this additional work? Congrats on your purchase!!

you can check my other threads, car had a clean Ppi. All of this is totally preventive maintenance.

I paid a premium for the car high 30’s Canadian dollars, tax in 13 %.

Low mileage, low option, no accident car. Decent service history.

2000 km on Pirelli pzeros. Porsche battery, servicing done at Porsche etc. I could have been in 997.1 territory easily. Although I prefer the 997.1 round headlights, I couldn’t stand the interior. The phone and nav are both useless and fugly. Too many shades of gray. Much prefer the look of the 996 plain interior.

Biggest thing for me is the lack of a spare on the 997. Yes I could have just bought a spare tire. This logic befuddles me, So, Imwill be going on a road trip to NYC in the spring. 500 mile trip. On Good Friday, I blow a tire. Where am I going to find a 285,30,18 tire?

Did you go to a dealer for this work or an Indy? Would love to know how much they'll charge (parts and labor) for the work, if youre willing to share.

Work is being done at an Indy. Car was purchased at one of (maybe largest) Canadian Porsche dealer.

I live in the city of Toronto, there are several well reviewed Porsche independents. Both are about 40 miles away. Both were preferred or certified installers of the IMS solution. For whatever reason, they no longer are. The one I chose was related to logistics. One of my colleagues lives around the corner from them making logistics a lot easier.

With regards to cost, I'm expecting a hefty bill. Best example of what it costs will be on this link:

https://pcaucr.org/ims-anxiety/

Although not a solution install per say, this gives a good idea of 2014 pricing for dropping the transmission etc. IMS solution is over $2G Canadian dollars. I think you get the ballpark of the cost. This was inline with estimates I got during searching for a car.

If your relying on the spare tire to save you may I suggest you add a breaker bar and socket for the wheel bolts, you don't want to be stuck on the side of the 400 on Friday of a long weekend and have the Porsche tool crack in half leaving you stranded for hours waiting for a tow, learned that the hard way.

I think I may even take it another step. Will be buying 4 new lug bolts to get rid of the wheel locks. I broke one once and if someone is going to steal my rims, I hope they take the whole car.

Here's what I'm going to put in the tool kit:

OH, and it won't be Friday afternoon on the 400. It will be 35/115. Our place is in the Kawartha's.
