Yup, I did the same. I added a sheet metal screw on each side, as the 3.8 airbox didn't have the locking tabs on the sides that the 3.4 had (only one on the top).

Noob rites of passage for me...
Cleaned out the radiators/condensers and then lovingly gawked at what the UPS man delivered.

I guess I’m about to find out how much better this SS is compared to the B&M knock-off I bought off of Amazon.

1000% better. I found the difference similar to the difference between night and day.

While not something I did today, it was last weekend. My son's 17 year old friends took rollers of my 996. Here is an example:

Passenger side window regulator. Got the part from Amazon for $57.07. Fairly easy install. Probably the cheapest part I have bought for her!

Maybe I’m missing something but I just installed the Numeric and it didn’t appear to be a big leap from the B&M knock-off it replaced. The only thing special I did to the B&M was shim it to remove side-to-side play. After one test drive, I am inclined to believe that my $80 SS was/is 90% of what the $629 Numeric is. Maybe I don’t have the Numeric set up perfectly, I don’t know...

R u on the midle handle setting? I put their cables in too and the shifts were s lit more crisp from the angency power ss that was in there. I do think the throw was actually slightly longer on the midfle setting. I may switch too the shortest setting one of these days but most peffer the middle.

It is in the middle setting. Honestly, it feels just like the B&M knock-off with the exception that the throws from 1-2 and 2-3 are slightly more “bolt rifle like”. 3-4 has a slightly mushy pronounced notch. 4-5 and 5-6 didn’t get much (if any) of a work out and to be honest, aren’t that important to me for this application.

Going off what I know up to this point. I think a majority of people wanting to experience a short shifter for the first time, would be more than happy with my previous setup. I’m not knocking Numeric through. I am well aware that the last 10% of performance can often cost 5X as much as the product that took you to 90%. I’m definitely not a performance car/driving expert, I’m just throwing some data points out there for people to consider.

In my experience it's all about the feel - the throw on the middle setting is about the same as the B&M. The feel between the Numeric and every other shifter I tried (basically all of the usual suspects except the GT3) was night and day - even with the stock cables. The best I can describe it is "easier" & "more precise" (bolt action?) - just no "mush" whatsoever... I had someone drive my car last weekend and it was one of the first things they mentioned (besides the awesome FSI 3.8 track performer engine...).
Maybe there's something funky going on with your shifter/cables?
