Personally I don't see why you would pay a $500 premium for Fister to do this vs a local shop that can probably turn it around quicker

My local shop did a fine job replicating Fister-D for $100 for both cans. I coated them with hi-temp BBQ black and installed them in about an hour. With the money saved I bought a nice new set of twin tips. No brainer.

I pulled the trigger on the muffler shop welding them up. It was cheaper than fister and they have done a few sets before; so I have a high confidence they can do it right. Also wife has been the one lugging these things around in the trunk of her car, and she's tired of taking them different places!

I'll post some pics when I get them back from the shop.

Thanks all!

Ok so got them back from the muffler shop, they did a great job so I'm happy. Next I plan to clean them off and coat them with some high temp paint, anyone have recommendations? I will go home depot and autozone on my lunch break to see what I can find. I think I'd prefer a darker color.

Edit: think I'll go with a silver paint as it might reduce radiated heat from the muffler keeping the engine bay a little cooler looks like home Depot has it

Side question...other than making more noise what is the point of this mod? Does it affect the tuning of the exhaust system...i.e.: back pressure, exhaust pulse, etc? Are there any negative effects? This just directs part of the exhaust from the cats directly to the exhaust outlet...correct?

Yes Henry, these were my original cans, I opted for the ceramic coating. I had shipped them to Fister during one of our Michigan winters. Took maybe 3-4 weeks total. Shipping was the killer.

Got my mufflers painted in high temp silver; probably won't get them on until the first weekend of May

It’s just the sound - that’s about it. Yes, some of the noise bypasses the mufflers, thus making it louder.

Thoughts would follow up on this thread, had the mufflers on for a few weeks now and they are great, normal sounding at cruise but throaty when you floor it. Overall a good mod and I'm happy!
