Default Key fob programming at an indy shop?

The key fobs for my car are dead. I’ve tried all the fixes and tricks, and I’ve determined that they’re simply dead. I bought a new fob and have a second on the way. I’ll swap the blades over, and take the “pills” wherever I go for the programming. The fobs are legit, brand new stock with barcodes and all the numbers.

With all that said, do I HAVE to take them to the dealership and pay their $168/hr labor rate for programming? Has anyone had this done at an indy shop? Real shot in the dark here - how about an indy shop in the Portland, OR area?

If a dealership is the only option, I get it. They make a huge investment in the facility, special tools, inventory, etc. I am just wondering if I have options.

Thanks!

You can go to an Indy as long as they have the Porsche PIWIS software and programming tools for programming the new key bar codes to the immobilizer.

They will need access to the IPASS/learning code for your car also.

The new key fobs also have new pills in them so no need to swap them over.

There are several options for scanners that will code these nowadays. Just call around.

Autologic diagnostic scanners will program the keys as well.

Default SOS Diagnostics

if you’re in the Portland, OR area, I’d highly recommend SOS Diagnostics in Canby. They had me in & out with two programmed keys in no time for $90.

He mentioned grabbing some info off a module under the driver’s seat. If that’s printed on there, you might not need anything from the dealership.

Interesting, I'm not too sure not sure what info he would have gotten off the box as the IPASS code for your car is fairly closely guarded info by Porsche as you can basically program a key and steal the car with it.

I had two replacement keys programmed at an indy in Pasadena for $90. They needed the VIN to get a programming code from Porsche, and the process took an hour or so. The replacement keys were new, from a Porsche dealership, with the white tags listing the 24 character (IIRC) hex code for each key.

I was an afternoon "drop-in" on a day when the shop was fairly booked. No regrets for the time taken, as I knew it might take a while.

It is possible program used key fob without 24 character code ,you haven't buy new from dealer ,and program imobiliser is also possible . I need only pas unit and used key or key which doesn't work.

How would the car know to communicate with the key if you don't have the code to it? Unless you somehow "clone" a working key onto a used one? I'm sceptical but happy to be proven wrong...

Normally with my procedure I can do it ,I need only PAS unit and key ,I can do it on all models covers 996 and 986 . If you need it you can send PAS unit with one or two keys which doesn't work .
